Have been experimenting with cooking, mostly successful. I find myself pants at pie crusts (clearly I take after Mum) and surprisingly bang up at soups and stocks. Success has been found in the Joy of Cooking's Pot-au-Feu, cheese soup, and veggie stock (which was promptly used in the Pot-au-Feu actually).
The bread has been like riding a bike. Despite not having made a loaf on my own since roughly the 5th grade or so, my first attempt was so beautiful angels wept. Or something. Next batch spotty, due to a suspected combination of overly hot base mix and slight over-baking. Next two, gold.
Tonight, a culinary high of beautiful broth, tiny boiled meats dipped in mustard and horseradish and half a loaf of homemade bread with butter.
Utter satisfaction.
And now for a bit of hot chocolate with Frangelico and whipped cream.
