In order to read through and do a second draft of Severus Snape and the Half-Blood Prince, I mined all my journal entries, gathered the material into what turned out to be three Word documents and printed it out.
It turns out to be 331 pages, single-spaced. 104,000 words. About a character that somebody else dreamed up. And I'm probably only halfway through what I wanted to say about Snape. It's like I'm at the end of Revenge of the Sith now--and Snape is a hell of a lot more interesting as a character than Darth Vader ever was.
(Heh. George Lucas wrote his own fanfiction.)
I don't know whether to be proud of my accomplishment (I've never written a three-hundred page novel before!) or appalled at my obsessive behavior. It feels like having an affair with a married man. Granted, his wife is bad-mouthing him all the world right now, but still....
One cool thing is that I wrote about half of it during the month of May. I was really spurred on by the encouragement I was getting to post something every day if I could. I counted up just the stuff I wrote in May and it came to more than 50,000 words. Which means, if I done that in November, I would have completed a NaNoWriMo!
Go me!
