The Bug did it...I have been trying to get her to learn to ride a tricycle, bicycle, unicycle, any kind of cycle for oh...at least 2 years now. She just does not multi task well, and the concept of peddling and steering were just too foreign, she couldn't do it. Complicate that with her willingness to give up at every little obstacle, and it was a great lesson in frustration (for both of us). After moving here, the Bug has become deep friends (well as deep as a 4 year old can get) with Bug2 who is 3 1/2. Bug2 comes up every Tuesday and Thursday as her mom has evening class, and we get together usually every day. Bug2 can ride her tricycle with no problems.
A few weeks ago, I started the bug out on yet another tricycle, but the only one I could find was small...too small.
garzan bought her a brand new tricycle, very nice, and a perfect size for her...and she can ride it. We started off on the sidewalk here at the apartment and around the parking lot. She still got very frustrated because she had to turn it around often (the end of the strip) and doesn't get the whole "turn in a circle" thing, or how to back up (I shudder at teaching this girl to parallel park I tell you!)...but we all (mom2, me, bug2, and bug) went to a nearby park this afternoon - with trikes. Mom2 and I walked, while the bugs rode...and rode. We walked around the whole park on the walking trail. It took us probably a good 1 1/2 hours - I think it's close to 2 miles...and the bug rode the entire time. I had to help push her up some small inclines because I didn't want her to give up and she truly doesn't have great leg muscles yet...but she did it. And now she's exhausted. I am so proud of her...finally she did it. She's been wanting to for a while, all her friends at home rode bikes but she had to be content running behind. Who knows, next year maybe she'll be ready for a little girl bike. The school is working with her on it too.
TTFN...math calls.
