JLA Vs. DYFS

There's a radio commercial been playing this weekend for Six Flags Great Adventure. Being a Warner company with access to those licenses, GA features folks dressed up like DC Comics superheroes.

The ad starts with a mother talking about how terrifying it is when a child's hand leaves a parent's. At first I thought this was some sort of public service announcements about predators or keeping a closer look on your kids. But then the mother is relieved as her child runs into the arms of Batman and his Justice League friends.

Now if I were normal I would go, "Whew!" and go about my day, but not me, all I could think about was how this was a really bad idea. The Justice League, and Batman in particular, don't really have a good track record with kids.

Green Arrow drove Speedy to heroin addiction, and also fathered a child he never took care of, Connor Hawke. Superman hid Supergirl away for years before telling anyone. Like Green Arrow, Plastic Man was also a deadbeat dad to Offspring. Aquaman failed to stop Black Manta from murdering his infant son. Wonder Woman took Wonder Girl to what amounts to another country to be raised by women with swords who have hobbies like 'bullets and bracelets.'

But Batman's the worst of the bunch. Batgirl crippled by the Joker. Jason Todd, the second Robin, murdered by the Joker (well, mostly). Let's not even talk about Stephanie Brown, but she's not even getting a memorial in the Batcave like any other dead Robin.

Am I the only one who's interested in what Bruce Wayne's Family Services file says??

batman, robin, great adventure, jla, dyfs, comics
