I had another really effed up dream this morning. Apparently I was in a sequel to Cloverfield although that wasn't clear at first, it happened in Philadelphia, I never actually saw the C monster and it had more Japanese elements than anything else.
I was in the Gallery, and suddenly, much like the movie, the ground started shaking, roars were heard, and then folks started to run from within the mall. For those folks not from Philly, the Gallery is an above-ground mall but much of it is underground with connection to trains and corridors and such. At one point, giant monster feet, similar to Godzilla's or King Ghidorah's, came through from above crushing running people.
In my own run, I passed what looked like a Japanese temple, nestled between a newsstand and a Dunkin' Donuts. Inside the small room, Japanese folks were praying to a statue of a winged monster with a pointed head. Now if I know anything I know my kaiju eiga. Monsters that are prayed to, like Mothra, are usually the good monsters - the ones who will save your butt rather than step on you. I'm no fool, I stayed with these guys as I watched crowds run by in panic and listened to the roars and giant footsteps overhead.
When the ceiling did come down however I followed my new Asian friends through the sewers to the surface where we watched several giant creatures destroying the Philadelphia skyline. There were three giant monsters, none of which were recognizable, not even the one from the temple or 'Cloverfield' - one woman even said out loud, "Where's Cloverfield?"
But there weren't just monsters out there, there were also giant robots. I recognized one as Raydeen of the Shogun Warriors. I struggled for the names of the other two. Danguard Ace was one. I made a joke in the dream I always make awake about the Stray Cats - you know, Brian Setzer, Slim Jim Phantom and the other guy. One of my Asian friends wasn't amused and told me her name was Combatra.
I woke up before any of the monsters or robots fought. I haven't watched any movies of this genre in weeks, haven't even been thinking about it. Been a month since I saw Cloverfield. What the hell did I eat last night????
