THIS CHAPTER OH MY GOSH YOU WERE RIGHT TO JUST WARN FOR THE WHOLE CHAPTER.

Thoughts in no particular order:

Jean! How interesting. Is she going to become important?

Baskerville loved Charles's mother, even more interesting. It makes sense, though. I imagine that that conflict -- the need to love his mother versus his logical knowledge that she didn't deserve it -- was part of what gave rise to Baskerville's existence.

Charles's little moments of vulnerability and affection with Erik just killed me here. Not to mention his suddenly having a conscience. Just when I think I have a handle on this guy... I like that he was more likable and even-more-than-usually complex in this chapter. Increase our emotional investment just before the horrific cliffhanger, curse you!

Moira is, as usual, amazing, and I love that SHIELD and the Cap worked their way in here.

I had wondered how you were planning to pull of the concentration camp survivor thing, I just didn't know how it could be done. And you did it. Because you're freaking BRILLIANT.

I'm going to be so sad when Erik turns back into his angry traumatized self. I've really fallen for this Erik the way he is. /sniffle

The Charles/Erik/Baskerville triangle continues to intrigue. Erik and Baskerville get along so well and are so sweet together!

What in the world even HAPPENED with Erik at the end? I feel like I must have missed something really obvious. Why was Charles suddenly in such a huge hurry to get back to him, and why did Erik completely flip his lid like that? Is it something Emma did because Charles had figured out the truth?

At least now we know how we ended up at the Prologue... Though I don't know why Charles would be so angry about Erik shooting him, if Emma was controlling him, and either way he could have stopped and didn't BECAUSE HE LOVED HIM so what is the basis of his complaint? I guess we'll find out...

I love Jean! /casually ignores question

A lot of things caused Baskerville to exist, but the distance between what Charles knows logically and what he feels has always been an abyss, and that certainly helped. His mother did not deserve it. But we can;t help but love our mothers, can we?

Haha not even Charles has a handle on himself, man. What I enjoy the most about Charles is making him unpredictable. He's always been complex, but he's never been invested enough in anything to demonstrate it. In this chapter, he brought his whole mind to bear on Erik's issue, and so I was able to show more layers. I had fun writing it. And it was a fascinating exercise.

I love Moira! And I can't seem to write a fic without the Avengers thrown in lately >.<

Aw, I know. I like this Erik, myself. But he's not okay as he is. /hugs

I can;t tell you what happened to Erik without spoiling you just yet, But Charles was alarmed because he'd suddenly realized just how deep the whole thing went, and how bad it was, and he realized he couldn't risk leaving Erik alone and unprotected. He hadn't understood up until that point that Emma was moving one step ahead of him, trying to get him killed by Moira's hand. If she wanted him dead, then surely she would sink her claws onto Erik again. So he tried to rush back, but alas... you saw what happened.

Uh, Turtle, you assume Charles-after-the-shot is a rational creature. Just saying.
