http://phantasystaruniverse.com/charworld_planets_mortoob.php#planet I didn't realize it before (because Sonic Team fucked up when they were designing Mortoob for the Xbox 360 and didn't use any lens flare, so it doesn't register as a sun-baked desert so much as a mud-drenched shitmine), but Mortoob is arguably even more based on Tatooine than Motabia. Sure, Motabia had espies of Ben Kenobi and Jawas*, but with Dagora City, they're attempting to recreate the vibe and atmosphere of Mos Eisley (and, much to my irritation, failing miserably).
*If Motabia circa Phantasy Star is designed to be roughly equivalent to the habitable hemisphere of Tatooine circa A New Hope, then can someone contributing to the Star Wars Expanded Universe please, however late, retort with a vision of Tatooine, some 1000 years later, as a precariously irrigated Los Angelean expanse where the Jawas...
...Nope, never mind. Jawas were already junk scavengers. Paseo just wasn't well enough defined in Phantasy Star for them to establish that so were native Motabians. I see now.
BUT I'M WALKING AWAY FROM THIS WITH THE COMPELLING IMAGE OF A DESERT PLANET WITH A HABITABLE, TECHNOLOGICALLY DEVELOPED, CONTINENT-SIZED OASIS
THIS PROBABLY ISN'T MEANINGFULLY DIFFERENT FROM THE INNUMERABLE SETTINGS I'VE DESIGNED AROUND THE CONCEPT OF TEMPERATE POLES
