Incredible!

It's no secret that The Cabinet if Dr. Caligari (1920) is one of my favourite films ever. It was so weirdly rousing to American audiences at the time that it led to a riot when it premiered in L.A., where patrons literally ripped up their chairs, hurled them at the screen, and generally tore the exhibition room apart, before moving their discontent out into the streets. So needless to say I've been rather intrigued about this recent development:

A team spent nine days shooting new actors in the Caligari roles (Infusing some contemporary themes), then composited them against scans of the original film's backgrounds (a technique that should work exceptionally well with the mounted stationary angles of the first film).

This site has an interview with the Director of Photography, and features still photos and a video clip.

And oh yeah, I finally found my glasses after a week and four days of earnest searching (lost just after seeing the psychological thriller Bug, apparently as I made espresso at home since they were on top of that machine under the counter), just in time for my trip to Houston!
