I'm amazed at how much people have already forgotten about Hurricane Katrina. I'm also amazed at the fact so many people wanted it out of the news so quickly, or that they complained it was overdone. I mean, is the world so messed up that people can't show an ounce of compassion? Possibly, probably, although I wouldn't like to believe that.
I was taken by surprised a few months ago when I was doing my UChicago on-campus interview and the person asked me, "Whose fault is Hurricane Katrina?" At the time, I answered the government: local, federal, and state. I've been starting to realize it is not only the government's fault, but also the general American public for believing the media about New Orleans, or just turning their backs and not caring. For wanting it out of the news, for wanting to go back with their daily lives, for wanting the disaster victims to be out of their towns, for just wanting to be consumed with their own problems...
On another note, I was surprised when the mayor won the primaries. What are you opinions of him?

I think our mayor put his foot in his mouth many times, but his heart is in the right place. I was surprised that he won though.
