Bush at 9/11
Bush during Katrina
Someone shoot me. This idiot denies that global warming even exists, and then after the damage is done, after the city is washed away, he tries to be the big hero of the hour. Pssh...

I've been writing quite a bit these last few days. No prose or poetry; more like essays, I suppose. They're nothing great, but they kill time and keep me occupied in this madhouse.

Yesterday, I met up with Vickie and Alden and toured Rice. I don't really want to go there, but I guess it would be convenient, since they give scholarships. Alden and Vickie were worried about how they were going to get into college (they're seniors), as their transcrips are probably floating down the river, and they don't know how to contact their teachers for recommendations. Three years of building up perfect resumes, all to be destroyed by one storm. What's going to happen to us? Where will we go to school? Will we ever come back? Will this affect our future? Will we never see each other again?

The cell phone network still doesn't work, but thank God for emails, AIM, and text messaging. I still can't get in touch with everyone, but it's a start...

My parents are thinking of sending me to LSMSA, this really good boarding school in LA. I almost applied there last year but changed my mind at the last second. I had my interview over the phone today. It looks like they might let me in, but they want me to stay for the whole year. Right now, all I want to do is to get back to my school as soon as possible, but who knows when it will reopen. My brother starts tomorrow at the local public school here in Houston. Needless to say, he's very nervous, as he doesn't know anyone here. My parents are probably going to stay here also for time being and hopefully move back once New Orleans is safe again. I really don't want to move to Houston (or anywhere, for that matter).

It's absolute anarchy in New Orleans now. Murders, lootings, rapes, mayhem about. What will happen even after order is restored? The thugs now know how to get away with crime; will they continue even after everyone returns? Will people return after this calamity? The lake finally equilized with the canal, and slowly, the floodwaters are receding, but it will take at least a month to get the water out of the city. Who knows what the suburbs are like. Some parts are doing well. Others...

For the time being, I'm just catching up reading, trying to get news from the outside world, trying to teach myself bio. and calculus, messing with Photoshop, and making contact with everyone. It's like summer all over again, only this time, there's so school to come back to, no certain destination, no anything.

But I have keep myself occupied somehow.
