I swear I wasn't going to touch this topic...

But after gettting oodles of badgering emails from a friend about how Snape is all warm and fuzzy and loveable, and then seeing lots of "Aww... Snape... I want to cuddle with him" stuff all over the internet, I cracked.

Much as I've loved Snape as a character, I think the whole Snape/Lily movement is a bit... off. Don't get me wrong, I felt just as bad and sympathetic as everyone else about Snape's plight, and I think what he did for Harry was brave and admirable, and all, but Lily loving him back? I don't know about everyone else, but I haven't exactly fallen in love with any of my guy friends, even the ones I've known since I was little. And every time Snape made even the tiniest hint about his feelings, she didn't pay attention. She was probably completely oblivious (as most teenagers are) about his feelings, and she probably did not reciprocate them, even before he immersed himself in the Dark Arts.

I don't know, the whole fluffy Snape thing seems a bit odd. I loved Snape because he was so anti-fluff (even in Potter Puppet Pals!). I didn't find The Prince's Tale to be the least bit cute and adorable, but rather powerful, moving, and ultimately, extremely tragic (unrequited love... *sadface*). It gave even more strength to Snape's character. All of the "Lily should have chosen Snape!!" and "Snape...Awwww *pinches cheek*" stuff seems to diminish all the aspects that made him so memorable in the first place, before we found out that he harbored a deep, undying love. But that's just my interpretation.

(and I cross-posted it in spoil_me_dh and maybe everything_dh, because frankly, all of this fluffy squishy stuff about Snape is abuse of a gem of a fantasticly loathsome, bitter, spiteful, but ultimately brave and heroic character. And unrequited love/like/whatever does NOT = cute and adorable; it sucks majorly to go through it. I would know.)

Granted, I'm not big on fluff in general, and I've never been the biggest girly-girl. For all I know, these anti-fluff feelings could be stemming from my non-existant love life. But seriously, I'm losing IQ points from all of this. If nothing else, there are better things in Harry Potter (and real life in general) to talk about, like... China or toast or something. Bah.
