I can't even begin to describe how disappointed and, towards the end, disgusted I was with the 5th Harry Potter movie. All I shall say in this entry, however, is YUCK!
I personally hated the 3rd movie, because it's ending was so awful. 5 climatic, IMPORTANT, chapters crammed into less than 5 minutes... yuck! Columbus wasn't great either, but I liked the climax of the 2nd movie- it was well paced, it followed the book, and it wasn't cheesy or overly dramatic. Movie 4 wasn't too bad either, but that was by someone else (forgot who).
Most people didn't mind Movie 5. Maybe I'm just overly picky. To be fair, some parts were good, Bellatrix/Luna/Umbridge were great, and had it not been for the ending/climax, I may have just given it an "ehhh" rating. I won't say more until after you've seen it, though.
I loved it. I knew from the beginning it wouldn't be a great movie so I spent a good portion of the time pointing out really ridiculously funny things to people. Good times!
I wish I could have done that. I did make fun of the ridiculous hairdo's at one point (Lupin: Things are difficult now. Me: Well yeah, things would be difficult, given your pathetic hair style), but that ending was... ack. So rushed and botched up! *cries*
And the sad thing is that I had no good expectations, yet I still walked out irritated. Oh well, Book 7 comes out in 1 week and 17 minutes (!!!!!) in New Orleans.
Yeah, the ending was definitely too compact.. There was so much foreshadowing, like in all the HP books, but the climax was, once again, "unintentionally capable of invoking humor" (except for the fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort! Damned if that wasn't cool!)
Sirius's death was the worst point of the movie. I had imagined a tension-filled moment, a truly terrifying scene of the film, and, well, I didn't get that. He died too quickly, and Harry recovered too quickly (did he even mention it after it happened...?)
I'm really looking forward to the book! I've heard so many spoilers that I don't know which ones to believe, so the point of the spoilers in the first place has been effectively nullified =)
Yeah, that duel was pretty cool, though it looked like Dumbledore was terrified of Voldemort, rather than the other way around (I mean, the chapter in the book is called "The Only One He Ever Feared." Come on!).
I think I felt more emotion watching Cedric die in book 4, even though he was a minor character. Sirius's death was such a blink-and-you'll-miss-it deal, and that slow motion with Harry going NOOOO did not make things any better (that technique only works for Lord of the Rings).
