I've only been here for a few months and already I've seen the school's population suffer hallucinations, be turned into animals, and be tricked into thinking they were poisoned. Never a dull moment around here, huh? I think I'm going to stick to cooking my own meals for just a little while.

Fultoning you to Mother Base and threatening to shove you into the ocean if you don't join.

Why, you interested?

[ARMS CROSSED. EYEBROW RAISED. Time to do your business man thing, Miller.]

[Oh god oh man his toughest customer yet. Out with the flirty, in with the ~PROFESSIONAL~.]

Since the MSF has literally just restarted, I can't entice you with a fancy base of operations or state-of-the-art training facilities just yet. But once we've expanded a bit, we'll be able to provide a full range of military services worldwide: protection, information gathering, training, weapons, technology... I have the feeling the latter is what will really be in demand.

We operate outside of any one nation's laws - that's where the Without Borders part comes in. Those of us who've lost faith in our governments for one reason or another, those of us with nowhere else to go, those who can do nothing but fight... That's who really benefit from the MSF. We provide a haven for them. A reason for being. It doesn't matter where in the world they're from. When you give up your country and its ideology, suddenly it doesn't matter where the people you work with come from or what they used to believe in anymore. No racial or religious conflicts ever arose between our soldiers. Except when they were drunk and insulting each other for lulz. Almost like one world united...

Er. Since we aren't regulated by any government, there's not exactly any legal presiding over the recruitment process, either. The contracts are purely for the MSF's records. All we ask is that you truly leave your country behind and don't rat us out to other organizations.

[Briefly, perhaps briefly for a few long moments even, Samus was distracted from her Ionia-related intentions of being here. So much of this was so terribly relevant to her interests. Particularly the LOOSING FAITH IN GOVERNMENTS part.]

So, a group of free-lance mercenaries who serve and everyone and anyone...

[Gosh that sounds an awful lot what she does. But wait, this all sounds too good to be true. You don't even have a fancy base of operations yet.]

Are there any physical or age requirements?

Reply

monsieur_miller September 16 2010, 19:27:55 UTC

Well, obviously we're not going to be hiring toddlers, but... Age isn't necessarily indicative of ability. Especially around here. Two young girls who signed up mentioned taking part in a war here and coming out victorious. I'd still rather keep anyone that young working behind the scenes.

As for the physical ability... We've got plenty of job opportunities for those with brains over brawn. You seem like you'd fit nicely into any field, from what I've seen so far.

Two girls...? Do you have a current staff listing I could look at?

Reply

monsieur_miller September 16 2010, 21:03:09 UTC

It's just a rough draft so far, but...

[He takes a paper off his desk, containing names, notes, and possible positions. It looks something like this:

Kazuhira Miller
-Leader -Drill sergeant -Mess hall captain if/when Boss arrives
-Handsome devil

Huey Emmerich
-R&D -Pester and make sure he's with the new MSF too

Gandrayda
-Unofficial ally -Goad into signing on -ALIENS???

Giovanni Moretti
-??? -Interview about skills -Physically fit (field duty?)

Shiek
-Ninja? -Magic? -Ninja magic?
-INFILTRATION

Vianca
-??? -Cooking? Medical staff?

Ionia
-Interest in robotics? R&D?]

[Excellent, just what she was looking for. Looking over the list, she carefully keeps a poker face over her internal reactions. Handsome devil? Hah. Huey? Otacon's meeker sounding twin? Hnnnn bad idea written all over it. Gandrayda WHAT. WHAT. Giovanni? Who was that again? And this Shiek ninja? Samus has never heard of them before. And--Ah, right down at the bottom of the list were the two Pikmin sisters, plain as day.]

...

[At this point, Samus is now wondering what she is doing here. Yell at Miller and tell him Ionia can't play in his merry band of shambled if-you-can-call-them-mercenaries? Yeah, that'll work. Join the MSF to keep an eye on her to try and ensure she doesn't do anything life-threateningly stupid? Just walk away from it all and see if Falcon follows through on his threats? Ionia would just be back here again the next day, or worse.]

You say there's no legal binding for recruitment, so what consequences would come if someone were to leave unexpectedly? Put a bounty on their head and hope for the best?

[Speaking of bounties and bounty hunters... Samus hands the list back and points to Gandrayda's name] Also what's policy on outsourcing "unoffical" help? Do they get paid the same percentage as the rest of the other members?

If someone wants to leave, they can leave. I'm not going to put a bounty on them. The only reason they'd be killed would be if they end up on the other side of the battlefield, but that's war. [He takes the list and looks to where Samus is pointing.]

Yeah. They just don't get the added benefit of our training, food and shelter, and they'd have to get weapons and armour their own way. But considering how small we are right now, they're not missing much.

[And then Kat took too long to decide] icequeen_aran September 18 2010, 07:48:41 UTC
[Nggghnnn. She is clearly deliberating and has reservations.]

...

[THEN SAMUS REMEMBERED SHE WAS A LITTLE ANNOYED AT FALCON AND ALMOST JOINED OUT OF SPITE except not enough. It really sounds like she's not missing out on much at the moment, as Miller just said. Still, she didn't want to come all the way here for no reason and leave without some sort of assurance or a tutelage for Ionia's sake. Damn. Damn. Damn.]

Kaz. [Leaning over desk action.] I've lost faith in the army I used to work for a long time ago, but I've grown to like my freedom too much, and it's what I still trust the most. But...

[What is she doing she totally just ganked Miller's list back and is WRITING A NUMBER ON THE BACK OF IT?!!?] I am not opposed to making some cash. Keep my name off this list, and call only if [HRRRGHN SWALLOWING PRIDE I DON'T PARTICULARLY LIKE OR KNOW HALF THE PEOPLE IN YOUR LITTLE CREW] anyone on a mission is in a dire emergency.

[Direst extremest emergency. Everyone is dying and everything is exploding especially little girls and maybe alien ladies.] No other reason.

[EVERYTHING WENT BETTER THAN EXPECTED. He looks over the number on the back and resists the urge to make a crack about calling in the middle of the night just to hear her voice~~. Because right now he is in PROFESSIONAL*MODE.]

No other reason. Got it. Hopefully you won't have to be hearing from me anytime too soon. [Like this weekend. Dun dun dun.]

[Holds out his hand. Might as well make it ~*~official.~*~]

[Yeah she's still expecting an accidental or drunk phone call at some point probably during a Very Awkward Time.]

Let's hope not.
