Unluckily for Snake, Miller was the kind of guy who was very generous to people he was trying to get into the pants of liked and would do crazy things like import French wine or cigars if he felt like it.
"Mmm. It's been a while since I've had the chance to properly appreciate a quiet night. Even longer since I've done it in the city. I keep trying to listen for the waves of the ocean..."
"That depends. I'm adapting to the technology well enough, even if I still can't get over that a tiny wireless phone is also capable of taking pictures and video recordings. I've accepted the fact that I somehow leapt through time in the first place. But..."
He sighed, feeling oddly more comfortable in divulging information with Snake than he thought he'd be. "Despite the hallucinations and transformations, a quiet, slow-paced school life isn't one I've known since college. Some days I wake up feeling like I should be lining these kids up and putting them through extensive drill training 'til sunset."
Snake couldn't help but laugh, before realizing that bursting out with laughter after someone mentions that they're somewhat uncomfortable maybe wasn't the friendliest thing he could have done.
"Sorry. It's just, the thought of you putting these students through the kind of drill training you put me through... if anyone needs it, it's them."
Another smile towards Miller, but a real one this time, not just a smirk.
Miller was strangely alright with this. Better than polite sympathy. But he couldn't help but feel a small pang of... what? Loneliness? Even if Snake knew him from a different point in time, the reverse just wasn't true. No matter how easy it was to pretend he was talking to Big Boss.
How troubling.
After a moment, he tilted his head back and struck a sort of pose. "I'm still good-looking when I'm older, I hope."
"There's nothing wrong with being proud of what you've got." He laughed and flexed his ~glorious muscles.~ "I have a feeling you could get away with flaunting it too."
He rolled his eyes, as he made a show of pulling at his collar and mock fanning himself.
"Not my style," He lowered his voice, "Too many scars." He winked and nodded. Miller would definitely be one of the people who would understand how quickly those accumulate.
YOU WOULD THINK SO, BUT HIS MODEL IS SURPRISINGLY FREE FROM ANY MARRING ON HIS BEAUTIFUL SKIN.
"Your father had plenty of those himself, including a nice big one here-" he traced an 'S' on his chest with a finger- "but that didn't stop him from walking around in swimming trunks. Or trying to go on missions in them..."
Snake caught himself before his own hand could mirror Miller's, and move to his chest. It was strange, he didn't know that. He almost thought of asking how, but there were a million reasons why that wouldn't be appropriate. It was weird, like Miller was telling Snake tales of his father as if he died a war hero, when in reality... He coughed, hoping that Miller hadn't realized he was waxing nostalgic over his old friend with the man who had killed him, and shrugged.
"That seems a little foolhardy. The suits are revealing enough."
He maaay have temporarily forgotten about that tiny detail. It didn't matter who killed Big Boss; war was war. War was also written by the victors, which was why it also didn't matter to him what kind of terrible tyrant they'd painted him as... Miller would always remember him as his closest friend.
He wasn't going to let himself stumble helplessly down the same path he watched Big Boss himself go down what felt like only weeks ago...
"What kind of suits do they have you wearing these days?"
"Hm." He paused, taking a moment to light up a new cigarette. He took a deep inhale, and tapped the new ash onto the ground next to him. On his loud exhale, he answered.
Miller took that as a reminder to dump the contents of his pipe for now. He was not a chain-smoker like fucking everyone else in PW, even the 12 year olds SOME people.
"Oh yeah? Maybe I'll pick you up a box one day. If I'm feeling generous."

Snake chuckled, leaning a little further over the railing of the balcony.
"... And there's a breeze. It couldn't be better."

"I, uh, guess things could seem pretty hectic in this time period, if you weren't used to it."
There was a pause. It still felt weird to ask people questions like this.
"... Are you getting used to it?"

"You really are the same guy. Just younger."

"Show you? You looking for a mission?"
