Let me start this post by telling you about my spotless driving record. In the...(adding)....13-ish years I've been driving I've had one speeding ticket & only been in one accident, which was very minor & totally the other guy's fault, the NRMA even discounted my insurance by around $500 because I've been such a good motorist.

All that nearly changed today (as if you couldn't tell where I was going) when I pulled out of my driveway & RAN SOMEONE OVER!!! Now, when I say "ran someone over" what I actually mean is I knocked someone over…with my car. It happened as I was coming out of my driveway & luckily I was barely moving when I hit him. I’d turned my head to make sure there was no traffic coming & as I pulled out into the street an elderly gent stepped out in front of my car.

All I saw was him falling to the ground & a flash of blue from the grocery bags he was carrying. I immediately put the car in park & jumped out to see if he was OK, expecting him to at the very least have broken his hip. I asked if he was hurt as he got back on his feet & he responded that he was fine & not hurt.

I noticed his ankle looked kinda swollen but too swollen for me to have caused it less than a minute earlier. I also noticed his grocery bags which contained two casks of wine & nothing more. While this didn’t make me feel any better about running him down it did make me think that a) he was most likely already drunk so it probably wasn’t entirely my fault, but that b) he might have been more injured than he or I realised. By this stage he was on his way down the street & I jumped in my car, slightly shaken & went to work.
