Grease me up Danny, I'm going in.

Channel 10 is showing 'Grease', for probably the billionth time, on Saturday night & if I don't do anything exciting (which we all know I won't) I might have to sit down & watch this movie I wrote off so long ago.

'Grease' was a favourite amongst the "popular" crowd at my high-school & must have been undergoing a revival during my final year. Songs & scenes from the film featured heavily in our end of year concert with said "popular" kids (like that skank Sarah McInnes) performing most of the major numbers & leaving very little room for anything original/entertaining. And as if that wasn't torturous enough for someone who'd recently discovered the joys of David Lynch films & The Violent Femmes (sooo early 90's), the whole class was made to sing that "We go together like....." song as the closing number, which of course meant learning all the words & hand gestures. I seem to recall being in the group that had to sing the "shoo-wop shoo-whadda-whadda yippee-de-dip de-do" line & almost 20 years later can still remember most of the lyrics (along with the six-steps of service taught to McDonald's staff).

I don't think I ever really hated the film. Sure it featured the world's douchiest douchebag John Travolta but I mean how could I hate it when it also featured one of the coolest women in Hollywood in such a tarty role, I'm of course referring to the amazing Stockard Channing. Sure Olivia Newton John was the lead but she had nothing on that dirrty girrl Rizzo, besides which Xanadu's Keira was a much better role for her, I mean c'mon she had roller skates & did that fingers-over-the-eyes dance move. The fact that the Sandy character was so quick to jump fences into the slag camp makes me question just how pure & virginal she really was. Any money she'd be the type to jam a finger up Danny's arse while going down on him, not unlike Sarah Mcinnes I'm sure.

"We'll always be together, we'll always be together" repeat & fade.
