Hello there! I'm new to this community, and a slightly obsessive fan of Princess Mononoke. I just can't get enough of it lately! I first saw the film about a year ago now. I watched it again recently (twice, actually!) and became VERY inspired by all aspects of the film. To that end I've now got both the soundtrack and the symphony suite CDs, a kodama pin badge, and a book on the art of the film. I'm quite obsessed! I just love the film so much. I was really moved when I saw it the second time - I don't know why, but I think I just appreciated it more watching it the second time. I did enjoy the first viewing, but I think I was quite tired that time, and it was a lot to take in, and I didn't appreciate the English dub as much as hearing it in the original Japanese, which is how I saw it the second and third times.
Just out of interest, does anyone own the Region 1 DVD? If so could you tell me if it's worth buying just to see the subtitles which are closer to the original Japanese translation? I like the Neil Gaiman script, but I'd like to see what the more literal translation is like.
The film has given me a heck of a lot of creative inspiration lately. I'm currently in the process of making a San cosplay outfit to wear to the
London MCM Expo in October, and I've also done a few fanart pics, which are under the cut. I hope you like them! I may post some photos of my San outfit when it's done. I'm thinking of going to some woods and running around them for a while pretending to be San, and getting my younger sister to take pictures. I hope I don't scare anybody too much in the process!
Kodamas!!
Mononoke Hime, defiant against the stormy sky.
Shishigami, or the Deer God. I did this today using watercolours.
Just out of interest, does anyone else have any other favourites out of the Studio Ghibli films? I've seen quite a few of them and enjoyed all the I've seen, but my other favourites are probably Spirited Away and Whisper of the Heart. There are lots I haven't seen though, so any recommendations would be great!
