This last weekend I worked/volunteered on the webcast at the Wegmans LPGA in Pittsford, and I had a lot of fun - I've woken up the last two days dreaming/thinking about golf and camera angles. It was a really excellent experience that got my foot in the door with a lot of people who are in production, and though I don't think that I'm going to be going into that field, who knows if it will help with international sport management. Maybe. But it was a wonderful time (though getting paid would have been more wonderful), and it was good to see some people from my TV class again. I did get horribly sunburned, however. And worked a total of 51 hours over 5 days for just free food. Overall though, seeing some very good golfers was impressive - even if champion Lorena Ochoa did cut Jocelyn off in her car Saturday evening. If you're interested in seeing the webcasts archived, they're
here.
In another golf related thing, here's a story straight out of Happy Gilmore:
One-eyed gator pulls golfer into pond.
And while we're on the golf trend, when should the Tour de Minigolf be? Right now, I'm thinking July 6, the day before Macker. And if we can find another good course in the Binghamton area, I'm all for dropping the pines, and maybe starting in Cortland and working our way back - that way it won't take as long, hopefully. Also, we should get more people - it would be fun.
Hitball's coming up too, and I'm making grandiose plans for scoreboards and standings boards. I'm a nerd. But you should all come! Especially if I haven't seen you in a while.
Things are hot here in Rochester. Brad's up, and we're going to see the Rhinos hopefully win tonight in the US Open Cup against the Western Mass. Pioneers, earning a 3rd round matchup against the New England Revolution, in another game I would hope to see. So that should be fun. And last night, after a disturbingly poor visit to Red Robin, we saw Blades of Glory with Heather, which makes me think I'd like to make a movie about an Olympic-type event of non-Olympic sports, and crazy things that would happen there.
Oh, and when I went to PAETEC Park today to get tickets, I saw that they were flying a US flag, a Rattlers (lacrosse) flag, and a Kazakhstan flag. A quick visit to the Rattlers' website shows that last Saturday was Kazakhstan night, an obvious though humorous attempt to cash in on Borat!. All citizens of Kazakhstan received free admission by showing their passports, and anyone dressed as their favorite Kazakhstani citizen got a buy one get one free offer. Interesting... creative marketing, I'll admit.
Also, today at Wibledon there was a match between Tim Henman and Carolos Moya where the 5th set went to 24 games total. That's awesome. Henman won, 6-3, 1-6, 5-7, 6-2, 13-11.
So, looking back on this post, I like sports. Well that's nothing new.
Home July 3/4. Looking forward to it. See some of you then, some of you beforehand, some of you after.
