drabble dump

More random drabbles, including Yamajima, Ohgojima, Yamada-hate (but not really), and more OhgoShida sleepover fun. If anyone can tell me where the titles of two of them came from you'll get... a high five.

whataya want from me // yamajima // please don’t give in, i won’t let you down

“You look dead,” Shida said in a rather flat, straight-to-the-point manner. Yamada glared and wondered why Kamiki liked her. She ignored it and continued, “Anymore and I think you’ll be dead. How much sleep are you getting? Not everyone can pull off raccoon eyes, you know, and you’re not one of them. You’ll never get a girlfriend this way.”

“Thanks for the tip. Why don’t you just knock me out and help speed up the process?” Yamada said sarcastically. He ignored everything else, because they both know that even if he wanted one he couldn’t have a girlfriend. “I’d like to see you do all of this and not look dead! Rehearsal with one group, rehearsal with another group, filming, and on top of all of that we have a math test tomorrow!” Yamada hit his head against the desk. “Kill me now.”

Shida patted his shoulder sympathetically and Yamada sighed, staring into the chalkboard. “And, you know… I haven’t talked to Yuto in two weeks.”

“You did say you were busy.”

“Yeah but that’s not it. He’s avoiding me.” He rested his chin in his hand and sighed again, moping in his seat. “Ever since the news was announced… well, everyone’s kinda antsy over it, but Yuto… aah!” Yamada pulled and tugged at and messed up his hair, groaning in frustration and nearly crying out of it, too. “It’s not my fault, you know! I didn’t ask for all of this!”

“I know. And he probably knows, too,” Shida suggested. “He’ll get over it, eventually. He’s just getting used to it, that’s all.”

Yamada knew that Yuto knew all of that. Yamada kinda knew what was bothering Yuto. It was what always bothered Yuto, since their show, his and Yuto’s and Morimoto’s, was cancelled, replaced by his and Hikaru and Chinen’s show. It was what bothered Yuto since Mayonaka no Shadow Boy, all the way to the Hidarime Tantei EYE special. It was how Yuto felt when he remembered glorified days as a junior, busy as a bee (busy as Yamada was now), and realized that he actually had time to study and do whatever he wanted now. It was the uncomfortable way Yamada felt when he realized what he’s done to the ex-top Junior, to his best friend. It was no one’s fault and everyone’s fault, and Yamada knew that Yuto was happy for him, that Yuto would never admit to any of this, but-

Yamada sighed. “I wish things were how they used to be.”

Shida hummed her agreement as Chinen walked in, sliding into his seat and saying his morning greetings. Yamada looked at him blearily. “Where’s Yuto?”

“Somewhere behind me, probably. He said he wanted to pick up something. Go back to bed, Yama-chan, we have dance practice after school.”

It was only a few minutes later when Yamada, from his seat, heard the rest of their classmates greet Yuto. He didn’t follow suit- he didn’t want to look at someone who couldn’t stand to look at him. (It hurt him, too, you know.) He didn’t lift his head or budge at all, until he heard a tap on his desk and opened his eyes to see a can placed in front of him.

Yamada lifted his head and his eyes widened. Yuto wasn’t looking at him, still, but his cheeks were red as he fidgeted in front of his desk, fingers lingering on the can he had just placed down. “What’s this?” Yamada croaked, trying to keep calm because somehow, he knew, that if he acted out it would break everything again.

“Ah. It’s, um, an energy drink. For after school, and practice… it tastes good and works really well, so…” Yuto stopped and looked at him shyly, offering the tiniest of smiles. Forgive me? “You have a lot to do, so you need to keep your energy up, and, uh…”

Before Yuto could embarrass himself anymore Yamada quickly took the can, fingers clutched around it tightly. If he was more sentimental (or a girl) he’d think that from the cold can, he could, somehow, feel Yuto’s warmth from it. Only Yuto, who was always worried and trying to do whatever he could, would ever be this thoughtful and realize that some cheap drink that could be bought anywhere would be the best gift possible. “Thanks,” he murmured, slipping the drink into his bag before a teacher could see it and confiscate it. There’s nothing to forgive. “Thanks, a lot.”

Yuto’s smile brightened, a smile that said everything would be okay. Life was far from perfect, but it was okay and he no longer minded it. “You’re welcome.”

Overexposure // Shida, Ohgo, Nakajima, Yamada // Light hearted humor, plz to not be taking this seriously

“You know,” Mirai says, “I see enough of that big head in class. I’m not exactly thrilled to have to see it everywhere else I go, too!”

“At least you don’t have to work with him!” Yuto is cheerful and happy and acting as if they aren’t bashing his friend and co-worker behind his back. “I get to see that face in class and during practice and now everywhere else, too!”

The three sigh in unison, though Shida suspects that Suzuka doesn’t really share their concerns and is playing along because of Nakajima-kun. If Suzuka cares about Yamada Ryosuke’s face getting shoved at her wherever she goes, it’s only because she’d much rather be looking at the taller boy instead.

“If he wasn’t such a… pig head it wouldn’t be so bad,” Mirai says as they begin to walk on and away from the huge Hidarime Tantei EYE poster they had been staring up at, “But he’s so damn smug, I just want to…”

“He is my best friend,” Yuto mourns, as if just now realizing that it wasn’t a very good sign of friendship to be talking about him behind his back. Suzuka coos and pats his shoulder sympathetically and Mirai gags at the cuteness.

“I know, which is why I’ll hate on him enough for the both of us. But really, if I have to see his face one more time today I swear I’m going to… punch him or something!”

In a classic ‘speak of the devil’ moment Yamada runs up behind them and claps his hands on Shida and Yuto’s shoulders, smiling widely. “Hey guys! Did you see the new poster they put up?”

Shida swears that punching him was an accident. Yuto decides not to tell Yamada about their conversation and pretends to sympathize as he helps ice Yamada’s bruise.

if i had you // ohgojima // that would be the only thing i ever need // prequel to these drabbles

Yuto hadn’t told Suzuka, but their meeting in the park wasn’t the first time he had seen her.

The park was a popular destination for him, five minutes from his house and filled with people he loved. Like the kindergarteners who begged him to play soccer with them, laughing whenever he tripped over the ball or made a blunder, and the old woman who always had a few leftover table scraps to sneak to Tamu while Yuto pretended he didn’t notice. His girlfriend had enjoyed herself the first few times, but after a while made it clear that dates were supposed to be in the city, not the park.

“Come on,” she sighed, looking more annoyed than amused as her boyfriend helped an old man feed the birds. “I thought we were going to go to the movies!”

Yuto was fairly clueless to such agitation. “Aww, we have plenty of time! Come on, Yurina, try it!”

He tried to dump some of the birdseed into her hands and frowned when she made a face and pushed him away, sending him the exasperated, ‘stop acting like a kid!’ look that he got often. “No, Yuto, I don’t want to try it! I want to go on a normal date!”

But normal dates aren’t fun! Yuto would have said, but he wasn’t so clueless that he couldn’t tell when she was getting upset. He sighed and tossed the rest of the seed onto the ground, dusting his hands off. “Alright, alright, let’s get going.”

“Wash your hands first, okay? And hurry, it’s getting late!”

Resisting the urge to grumble a yes mother, Yuto turned around to jog off towards the park’s washing station, looking around enviously. He liked movies, yeah, but it was such a nice day and everyone looked like they were having so much fun. He waved at the kids playing on the jungle gym and sighed as he washed off his hands, shaking his head.

“Look, look!”

Instinctively Yuto turned towards the sound, laughing at his own folly when he realized it hadn’t been anyone wanting to speak with him. He smiled at the young girl that had probably shouted out, a girl about his age that was smiling a smile that could light up a ten story building as the baby ducks the park housed hungrily pecked food out from her hand. She looked up to the guy standing next to her (a boyfriend? he wondered) and said something, and Yuto couldn’t help but think why can’t Yurina be like that? (and she’s cute.)

Yuto caught the boyfriends faint words and laughed at how familiar they sounded. “Suzuka, stop it, you don’t know where those things have been!”

“Aw, come on, aren’t they cute?”

“No, you’re just weird. Come on!”

The girl pouted, and Yuto would have called out “I know how you feel!” but he could see Yurina glaring at him from halfway across the park. But he still smiled at the sulking girl as she walked past him to wash her hands (familiar, again); she glanced at him but didn’t react, probably thinking it was directed towards someone else, and he laughed to himself. Maybe I’ll talk to her some other day, he thought as he headed back to his own girlfriend.

“It’s probably for the best, isn’t it Tamu? You didn’t like her either, I know.” Tamu yipped and Yuto smiled, sadly, because even if Tamu didn’t like her and sometimes Yuto wished she was just a little different, he had really, really liked her. “And I knew it was coming. I’m too silly for her, right? Aaah, Yama-chan’s always telling me, girls like cool guys! I should listen to him, he must know something if he can get a new girlfriend every other week.”

He rambled on, like he had been doing for the past half an hour; trying to convince himself that it was okay, that there were other girls and he just had to find the right ones, that she wasn’t all that great…

Yuto sighed and hugged Tamu as tightly as he could without squishing the dog. “This isn’t working. I’m still sad. Come on, Tamu, do something cute and make me feel better!”

Tamu barked. Yuto groaned but smiled anyway. “Yeah, I know, you just want to chase the birds.” Yuto looked up and rested his chin on the dog’s head, looking out at the park and watching the people go by. “Okay, how about this. Help me find a new girlfriend! When you find one you like, bark again!” Yuto knew it was silly and stupid to be talking to his dog like this, but it was making him feel better, and other than Yurina Tamu had good taste in people so-

Yuto snapped to attention when the dog parked again, looking around for whatever caught his attention. Then he laughed. “Ah, another dog again? Sheesh, Tamu, I-”

Though he was pretty certain that Tamu had been barking at the pretty yorkie that he had a puppy crush on, Yuto’s eyes were on the girl handing over a soccer ball to a group of children. “Ah, it’s her. That girl I told you about!” he whispered, looking on curiously. The girl was laughing as children tugged on her arms and tried to drag her out into the field until she finally relented and joined in on their game. “She’s cute, ne? I wonder if she’s still with her boyfriend… ah of course she is, she’s too cute to let go.”

Yuto didn’t know how long he sat there watching her play with the kids, smiling as they laughed and played together. She was really pretty, especially when she smiled, and everyone knew he was a sucker for pretty smiles. But he had to stop himself from letting his thoughts go any further, to remind himself that she had a boyfriend and even if she didn’t there was no way he’d ever have a chance with her. Guys like him were better as friends, while all the cool ones got the pretty girls. That’s how it was in manga, and that’s how it was in real life. Yuto sighed and stood up, placing Tamu on the ground and turning his back on the pretty girl. “Come on, Tamu, let’s go. We’re just depressing ourselves, longing after things we can’t have.”

Still, he thought as they began to walk back home, It’d be nice to see her again.

teen queens and magazines // shida x ohgo friendship, shida x tomiura satoshi // shida and ohgo have epic sleepovers and tomiura satoshi is adorbs.

“Based on this magazine you are most compatible with…!” Suzuka stopped and peered over the top of the magazine for dramatic effect. Mirai leaned forward in faux-eagerness, still finding the whole things ridiculous but then again, the two of them were pretty ridiculous to begin with. “… Yamada Ryosuke!”

“Eh?” Mirai’s face fell and she reached out to grab the magazine away. “You’re kidding! I don’t want to be compatible with that blockhead!”

Suzuka scowled and held the magazine away, glaring at her friend. Mirai glared right back, until Suzuka finally flinched and dropped the serious look in favor of laughing. “Yeah, I’m kidding. You got Yaotome-kun.” She sighed dramatically and tossed the magazine aside, flopping back onto the futon Mirai’s mother had prepared for her. “Aah, those things are so dumb anyway. Me, compatible with Takaki-kun, yeah right!”

“You’re just mad that even after you purposefully tried to get Nakajima-kun you ended up getting Okamoto-kun!” Mirai leaned over to poke her in the cheeks, making Suzuka scowl even more and pick up her pillow to whomp her with. “Hey, what did I say about that!”

Suzuka giggled and jumped up on Mirai’s bed to hit her a few times before settling down. “So, you gonna ask them to set you up with Yaotome-kun?” she laughed, lounging next to her and hugging her pillow to her body. Mirai rolled her eyes and kicked her playfully. “No? Then maybe someone else? Kamiki-kun?” Shida snorted and shook her head. Suzuka sighed and tried to remember who else her friend had worked with. “Uh, Miura-kun, Hongo-kun, Kento-kun, Tomiura-kun- ah!” Suzuka said triumphantly, jabbing Mirai in the shoulder.

“Ouch, what was that for?!”

“You blushed!”

“Did not!”

“Did too! I said Tomiura-kun and- you did it again!” Suzuka grinned and continued to jab at Mirai. “You like Tomiura Satoshi! Admit it or else!”

Suzuka didn’t even give Mirai a chance before she began to tickle her relentlessly, making the girl laugh uncontrollably and flail around on the bed, trying to kick the other away. “Okay, okay, stop it! I think he’s cute, alright?” she said, grumbling and pouting at Suzuka’s very pleased face. Let’s see if you’re smiling when I tell Yuto-kun you like him tomorrow! “And he’s pretty nice. It’s not like I want to marry him or something.”

“There are other ways to be compatible~”

Mirai groaned and decided this was a good time to try to knock Suzuka out with the penguin again. “Oh shut up you pervert!”
