notes i wanted to write about drunk!suzuka crashing in on yuuto in the middle of the night. so here it is, drunk!suzuka crashing in on yuuto in the middle of the night, with some angst and frustration thrown in.

Yuuto groaned at the loud banging that was coming from his apartment door, reaching to stuff his pillow over his head and pray that his roommates would be nice for once and answer the door instead so he could fall back into his comfortable dreamland about things that would never, ever happen. But the pillow did little to muffle the loud, obnoxious sound, and within seconds some more loud and obnoxious sounds joined in with it: “Yuuutoooo, get the damn door!”

“You’re gonna wake up the entire complex!”

“Just go see what your wife wants already!”

Sitting up straight quickly, Yuuto inhaled a large gulp of air and exhaled it with a huff. Suzuka. “Fine, I’m going!”

The banging continued all the way until Yuuto reached the door, unlocking it and opening it so quickly the agitator fell right through it and against him. She didn’t seem to mind- giggling messily, Suzuka through her arms around him and hugged him tightly. “Yuu-chan! Konbanwa~”

“Suzu…” Yuuto sighed. Well, at least it had lasted a month before happening again. “Suzuka, I told you to call me when this happened, ne, you woke everyone up,” he said gently, dragging her fully into the apartment and closing the door behind him.

“Oh… oh, right!” Pushing herself away from him, Suzuka swayed a bit as she rummaged through her handbag, nearly toppling into Yamada’s tower of game cases before huffing and tossing her purse aside. “Yuu-chan, it’s not in there! I must have left it at the restaurant… we have to go rescue it! Let’s goooo!”

Sighing, Yuuto grabbed an outstretched arm as Suzuka spun around dramatically, pulling her back to him and wrapping an arm around her waist as she staggered and tripped. “We’ll go find it tomorrow, okay? For now let’s get you into bed, before you do any more damage to the apartment.”

Suzuka, who had been about to throw a fit when Yuuto denied her request, perked up at the word ‘bed,’ giggling and looking up at him starry eyed. “Oh Yuu-chan~ Take care of me, ne?” She jumped up to kiss him quickly, whining when his hands pushed her shoulders down firmly. “Yuu-chaaaan! Love me! Am I not good enough? Not you, or Kazu-kun…” Collapsing back into his chest, Suzuka gave a little whimper before the waterworks started, crying loudly and messily. “Kazu-kuuun…”

“Suzuka…” There was no dealing with her when she was drunk. Smoothing down her hair soothingly, Yuuto sighed and bent down a little, hooking an arm behind her knees to pick her up in one swoop, stumbling a bit as he tried to get used to the weight. “Come on, Suzu-hime, let’s tuck you in. You’ll feel better in the morning.”

The entire way to the bedroom Suzuka sobbed, though it was considerably quieter than the dramatically drunk cries she had started off with. “Yuu-chan… why doesn’t it ever work?” she hiccupped as he set her down onto his bed, pushing her down when she tried to get up again. She curled up into a ball, rubbing her face into his pillow as he pulled the covers over her. “I just want someone…”

Kneeling next to the bed, Yuuto sighed. This wasn’t the first time a drunk Suzuka had showed up at his apartment at some ridiculous hour, half laughing and half crying her sorrows over whoever had dumped her. Luckily it only happened a couple of times a year, or Yuuto would have to talk to her about the meaning of a loose girl. Still, each time he saw her like this it broke his heart even more, and each time he came a little bit closer to giving in to her flirtatious demands, and her needy kisses and begs.

But it would never work for them- she had made that clear in high school.

“You’ll find someone, ne. You’re a pretty good woman, when you’re not drunk,” he finally said, brushing the hair away from her eyes and wiping away a stray tear. “Now sleep, okay. We’ll take care of everything in the morning.”

Sobs reduced to sniffling now, Suzuka nodded glumly, her eyes shut and clearly halfway into dreamland already. “Yuuto… you’re the only good guy out there,” she murmured, “I wish…”

’I could love you,’ I know. Those words were forever engrained into his brain. But he pushed back the bitterness and smiled gently, brushing his lips against her forehead before standing up. “I know. Sleep, Suzuka.”

Chinen was standing outside of his own bedroom door when Yuuto exited his, arms full of blankets and pillows to set the couch up with. “You’re too nice,” he said flatly, ignoring the annoyed look Yuuto gave him. “Stop letting her do this. It’s a pain for everyone, especially since we have to deal with your heartbroken mess when she leaves.”

“Shove off,” he grumbled, sighing when Chinen shrugged and went back to bed, leaving Yuuto alone in the living room as the girl he loved cried over someone else in his bed. He really, really wished that Chinen wasn’t always right.

title wicked city
notes inspired by the book wicked city. but only loosely, because honestly the only thing i paid close attention to in the book was the sex. this has no sex, at least not in the exiting way. only human!yuuto with a demon!suzuka. less likely to be continued any time soon, sorry!

“… and then some giant black… thing came crashing through the window! It wasn’t normal! Looked like nothing I had ever seen before, must have had at least six arms, these huge red eyes…”

“That does sound horrible, ma’am…” Snapping shut his note book Yuuto shoved it into his jacket pocket and took a pen out, smiling sympathetically at the shaking grandmother and placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. “We’re going to get right on this, okay? Find whoever… or whatever ruined your store. You can leave it up to us!”

The woman opened her mouth, probably to thank him, but Yuuto was quicker, lifting his pen up parallel to her eyes and clicking down on the pen cap. It flashed for a second, blinding its target briefly, and then was quickly pocketed as the woman blinked dumbly at him. “Okay, she’s clear. Keep her away for a few minutes while we clean up, okay? Can’t have her getting traumatized again right after her memory swiped,” he yelled to one of the men milling about. He smiled gratefully when they guided her to a back room, and then turned to look for his partner. “Uh. What are you doing?”

Suzuka looked up at him from the ground with the familiar ‘what do you think?’ look she usually gave him. “Looking for a trail.”

“By smelling the ground?” He reached to yank her up quickly, looking around nervously. There were still a few civilians around, going through the normal routine any Norm got after an incident like this, but they hadn’t seemed to be paying attention to them. “Okay, that’s not normal for this world.”

“But scents are the best way to track them, and my sense of smell is far superior to yours. What’s wrong with it?”

“It’s just…” Yuuto sighed. This wasn’t the first time he had stumbled into problems trying to explain the mechanics of earth to his partner. “Do you see anyone else sniffing at the ground? People will suspect something if they see you! Leaving that kind of tracking to the dogs!”

“That seems highly inefficient, you cannot speak with a dog, and even so my nose…”

“Suzuka-san, we’ve had this conversation before. If you want to work in this world you have to blend in, even if it means taking the hard way.”

Suzuka frowned at him but didn’t speak up again. Yuuto sighed for the umpteenth time and rubbed the back of his neck. It was getting more and more common for the police and detectives in this world to take on other realm partners- especially the special task force that actually dealt with the other realm. With more demons finding ways to escape into earth every day, it seemed logical to gain the help of those that knew them best. The other realm wanted them back just as badly, anyway- the majority feared that the more they messed with the human realm, the greater the risk of humans wanting to invade and wipe them out.

But even if it was normal to have otherworldly partners it was still a pain, and Yuuto was dreading this upcoming year. Ohgo Suzuka was supposed to be one of the best in her field, but she was still a baby amongst the humans. Yuuto still had nightmares of the time when she nearly speared someone with a nail after getting groped on the train- her human appearance was pretty enough (almost too pretty for his comfort), he didn’t want to know what her actual form looked like.

“Okay, never mind. What’s our next plan of action?”

**

Giving a world weary sigh (he seemed to be doing more sighing than anything else nowadays), Yuuto sank onto his couch with his beer and took a giant swig from it, willing the alcohol to work faster so he could pass out and get this day over with. The rest of the investigation turned out to be a nightmare, as whatever they were searching had disappeared into the water, leaving behind dead fish but no other lead until they caught wind of another attack at a large corporation. Headquarters hadn’t been pleased with how many memory swipes occurred that day, and naturally, because Suzuka was the visitor in this pair, he got all of the blame.

It was at times like this that he really, really hated that he happened to be able to detect demons, the only trait needed to be part of this particular task force. It wasn’t so much as a requirement to get in as the job was a requirement for anyone who had the ability- if it wasn’t for it, Yuuto could have remained with his band.

A sharp rap on his door made him groan, reluctantly rising from the comfy couch to go answer it. If it was a drunk Hikaru again he was cutting off all ties with that guy.

To his surprise it wasn’t Yamada- it was Suzuka, who, even though lived next door (a requirement, naturally), never came to visit him. She didn’t even bother with greetings, holding out a slim laptop with one hand and saying flatly, “Fix it.”

“W-what?”

“While I was writing up the report the screen suddenly flashed before going blank, and now it won’t turn on. Fix it.”

“Eeeeh…” Just what he needed, a demon demanding him to fix her computer. And she wouldn’t leave until he gave her an acceptable answer, of course. “What did you do to it…”

“What makes you think it is my fault?”

“It’s too new to break down from hardware issues, so either you somehow got a virus or you did something else.” Normally he would try to be a little kinder and patient, but it had been a long day, and his voice came out as a snap. “I’ll see what I can do, but I’m no computer wizard…”

Perhaps she realized it was a bad night to bother him, or, more likely, she just didn’t care, but Suzuka said nothing, following him into the apartment and taking a seat on his couch next to him. “Do you want something? Beer or anything?” he asked absently as he opened the laptop. He paused and thought about what he said, and winced. “Sorry, no beer.” Another one of his first encounters with her ‘hissy fits’ had come when someone tried to give her a drink at a bar they were scouring a demon for- apparently alcohol was poisonous to her kind, whatever they were. “Were you doing anything else when it happened?” he asked as he frowned at the screen.

“Looking at pornography.”

Yuuto choked. “What?”

“I received an email from someone named ‘hot4you’ telling me that someone was looking for me. I clicked on the link, and it lead me to a pornographic video of two human beings engaged in sexual matters. At first I assumed that one was being tortured, but further investigation proved that it was all quite consensual.”

Yuuto didn’t even know what to say to that. “Well. Now I know where you got the virus from…” Trying not to think of his (very pretty) partner watching porn, Yuuto fiddled around, typing and hitting keys for about half an hour as Suzuka stared blankly ahead of her. Finally he shook his head. “This is beyond my level… you should take it to one of the tech guys tomorrow and get it checked out. Sorry.”

“My hopes weren’t up too high.” Yuuto couldn’t tell if she was teasing and just didn’t have that tone of voice down yet or being serious about it. “May I use your computer then?”

“Uh yeah, of course. It’s right there.”

Yuuto grabbed his beer to finish the can as Suzuka did her stuff, pleased that the alcohol was taking off some of the awkwardness he normally would have felt with his demon partner sitting so close to him. The girl (was she even really a girl? He didn’t want to think about that) had only just gotten use to his occasional and casual touches, usually occurring when he had to stop her from doing something strange. She hardly seemed to notice him, though, so maybe it didn’t matter. He grumbled, inwardly, and stood up to get himself another can.

“Thank you.”

Looking up from the refrigerator, Yuuto looked over to her, genuinely confused. Had she ever said that before? Grabbing his beer quickly, he hurried back to look at her. “Excuse me?”

“Thank you.” Suzuka refused to meet his eyes, looking at the computer fixedly. “You’re a good partner. You don’t get impatient with me and you look out for me. Yabu-san says I am lucky to have a partner like you, and after talking to the other demons on the force I agree. So thank you.”

Yuuto blinked in confusion, wondering where the sudden sentiment came from. “Uh. You’re welcome.”

Suzuka looked up from the screen, looking almost a little wistful as she said, “Living in the human world is harder than I thought it would be.”

Is she… homesick? Did demons get homesick? Did they have families? Logically they had to have come from somewhere, so she could have had parents… Yuuto suddenly wished he had taken more time to know his partner and not just instruct her. Like this, she almost actually did seem human. “Hey, you know, if you ever need anything-“

“What are you doing tomorrow, Nakajima-san?”

That was fast. “Uh, whatever HQ tells me to do? Why?” A small (very, very small) part of him wondered if she was asking him out… no, of course not. “Did you want to go somewh-“

“One of the lords from my world requests an audience with us at precisely 11:30 AM in Shibuya,” she cut him off, all wistfulness gone and replaced by the stony, emotionless demeanor he normally saw. Plus a little bit of tenseness, as she stared at him seriously and handed him the laptop to see the email she had been reading. “He has threatened to release one thousand demons into Tokyo if we do not come alone, without telling headquarters.”
