Summary: A story about a girl, Mono, and her life or at least the part of her life that decided the rest of it.
*hiiiides* I thought of this story like 5 years ago... and I'm sure I wouldn't be able to write properly until I write it down so I'll try. I know it's awful, this is my first attempt to write. I've used japanese words, I know. I want to write down what I've been thinking of for these years and it requires me to use them.
*(o-)nee-sama - older sister
I know that you won't understand the supernatural in the story, it's not the main theme of it anyway.
This will most probably *cough* certainly *cough* be a tragedy. I'm really emotional and this is my masochistic side showing because I always think of things with sad endings. I'm sorry OTL
The idea is mine, as well as the characters. {I know no one would try to copy it so.. *shrugs*}

It was a sunny day in late spring, everything was buzzing with life up in the mountains - birds were singing, the trees were green, flowers blooming in beautiful colors. Somewhere in this paradise, away from towns and villages, there was a small house. The whole mountain was its garden, every animal - the inhabitants' pet. Who would live there, in the middle of nowhere, away from all that was civilization? Two girls, sisters, at the age of 9 and 18, were happily spending their life in peace and happiness.
"Onee-sama!" Mono squealed, excitedly running to her sister who was cooking dinner in the small kitchen. "Look at the roses, nee-sama, aren't they pretty?" the young girl exclaimed with a bright smile, showing the older one a bouquet of red and pink roses, in full bloom. "I got them for you, Canna-nee-sama!" she beamed, handing her sister the flowers.
*
Canna smiled warmly at her baby sister and leaned down to place a kiss on her forehead before taking them and putting them in a jar filled with water. "They're beautiful Mono, thank you." she said, caressing the child's silky hair. She crouched down so they could be on the same eye level. "But next time, you should let them bloom. If you want to show me, just take me to the place you found them, okay..? The flowers are alive as well." she explained and received a happy nod from the other.
*
"Okay nee-sama~" Mono beamed before a slight frown crossed her features, her eyes filling with worry. "I-I didn't hurt them, right..?" she asked, glancing at the flowers.
*
Canna chuckled and shook her head. "No, you didn't, don't worry." she muttered kissing Mono's cheek before standing up to continue cooking. "Can you get me the onions from outside, baby..?" she asked, gently ruffling her sister's hair as the child nodded, giggling at the nickname, and ran to the door.

Not a minute after Mono had gone outside, a scream was heard, a terrified scream. Canna froze, knife falling from her hand. She hurried outside, throwing the door open only to see her sister in the arms of a man she'd never seen. The child was screaming and kicking obviously scared, the unknown man quickly getting annoyed and throwing her on the ground roughly. Canna shrieked in horror and ran to her now sobbing sister, hugging her close. "How could you?! She's only a child! Who are you?! What do you want from us?!" she asked, tone changing from scared to angry and firm. No one hurt her baby sister.
The man laughed looking down at them and motioned to the other men who Canna hadn't noticed in the rush. They smirked at her and stepped forward, rising guns towards them.
Canna's eyes widened at the weapons and she quickly shifted so Mono was behind her. Her eyes teared up but she refused to cry, her sister was in danger and she was helpless, she realized.
"N-Nee-sama..?" Mono muttered, clutching at the fabric of her sister's dress. "N-Nee-sama, I'm scared..." she mumbled as she began sobbing again.
Before Canna could do anything, the man who had grabbed Mono snickered watching them with a disgusted face. "That's why I hate kids, they never shut up." he said, glaring at the child. His look changed to one of lust when he looked at Canna though. "Get the older one already, I want her." he ordered, licking his lips.
Canna shivered, realizing what the man wanted from her. She started trembling all over, terrified. She could still hear, feel Mono's sobs, the small hands shaking, the tear streaked face buried in her hear.
The men nodded and quickly made their way towards the girls, easily breaking them apart even though both struggled and screamed, refusing to let go of each other. Their leader pulled her hair roughly and looked at Canna with his previous disgusting grin. One of the others took a knife out and raised it, ready to murder Mono. A scared shriek coming from the child. "Nee---"
Canna closed her eyes, tears running down her face. She took a deep breath, trying to forget about the vision as she reached out behind herself and gave Mono's hand a reassuring squeeze. She then got up and glared hard at their leader, eyes turning black as night, and irises - red as blood. Her hand formed a fist, nails digging in her palm, drawing blood. "Don't you dare hurt us!" she hissed.
Inside however she was praying to the Light and Darkness, their creators, 'Please let Mono live through this, take me and give everything that I am to her. Let the Moon guide her and the Sun protect her, my precious little sister.'
Her eyes closed for the prayer, she didn't hear the gunshots, but she knew, she welcomed them. The pain exploded in 3 places, one of them too close to her heart. The next thing she felt was how her body hit the ground and blood filled her lungs, her vision blurry with tears. She could feel tiny hands touching her, trying to shake her, scared screams but the only thing she could do was cough blood. The pain was immense, everything hurt but what the worst was yet to come, when she opened her eyes. Mono, eyes wide and puffy from crying, still calling her name, hands still shaking her, lips trembling, choking on her sobs. She couldn't stand seeing her only loved one like this, so she did her best to smile - weakly but her eyes showed all her love.
She took a shaky breath and mustered all her remaining energy as she lifted her hand and caressed Mono's cheek gently leaving blood trails to mix with the salty tears. "M-Mono..." she started but had a coughing fit for a long, agonizing minute. "M-Mono... Live...and l-love." she muttered and smiled as she saw her sister nod obediently, gazing at her with her wide and innocent eyes. "I-I love you..." she choked, her other hand going to her stomach and clutching on the fabric of her dress weakly. She could feel the life leaving her body but she still had something to do, her soul had a place to go. She felt Mono's hands over hers, holding them in place. The child didn't realize how much this helped her, physical contact and affection was all she needed. She closed her eyes tightly trying to direct her soul to Mono's warm hands but the pain was blinding, burning. Her hand fell to the ground even though her sister was still clutching it. Mono was saying something, calling her probably but she couldn't hear, all she heard was the blood rushing through her veins and out of her body, her heartbeat slowing down. The end was close now, the pain would stop... but she'd leave Mono as well, all alone with these men. They won't kill her. Relief washed over her and she let go with a smile.
Mono was shaking all over but she'd stopped calling her sister's name, afraid she wouldn't hear her words. Her sister was covered in red. She looked so peaceful, she was smiling. Mono loved her smile, it made her look even prettier, the prettiest. She felt something washing over her, an odd yet warm feeling, a loose but gentle embrace. Her first thought was to ask the older but when she glanced down at Canna, there was something strange - she was still smiling but she'd went completely still, her other hand wasn't clutching her stomach, she wasn't trembling or coughing, just...still. It was scary. So Mono called out to her, screamed her name, shook her. She didn't know why she panicked so much, maybe because her sister had always been a light sleeper, always waking up to comfort her. Canna didn't move, she was so...lifeless, as if she was dead. But it was impossible, her sister said they'd always be together, the two of them, the Kalisto sisters. Always supporting each other. Forever.
So she couldn't be dead, right..?
Because Mono needed her.
She couldn't live alone, all alone.

"Pity, she was one of the prettiest girls I'd seen. I bet she'd have been a good fuck," the leader said with a sigh. He didn't know what that girl did, it had clearly been freaky, unnatural and the younger one probably was the same. A smirk made its way on his face. Freaks always made good assassins. They could scare others even without weapons... and childred were easy to control; easy to break; easy to manipulate. "Get the child, we're taking her with us." he ordered and turned his back to the corpse. Tomorrow, tomorrow he'd start training her, his newly found toy.
