A Trip to the Fair

Aug 28, 2008 01:15

My internets have been neglected for the past few days because I went to the State Fair and did fun stuff. My log of everything:

  • Traveled to the fair with sister and parents!
  • Ate hamburger, garlic fries, corn dog, gyro (YEE-rowe), funnel cake, ice cream.
  • Drank Dr. Pepper and watermelon lemonade.
  • Ate some fairy floss, a traditional fair "food" (it's not a gay man's thong).
  • Had fun on the crappy haunted house ride, the BEAR AFFAIR (spinning bears for kiddies), the carousel, bumper cars, and some of those fun houses with the rocking stairs and spinning wheel you walk through and stuff. All of these with my sister.
  • Saw "WEIRD AL" YANKOVIC in concert at the pavilion. I know people who can actually spell his name deserve the ticket more than I do, but I saw him anyway (I love Weird Al, really). See music videos or amusing fake interviews created by Al on YouTube.
  • Missed the deep fried Twinkies. So unfortunate. I see no up side to that.
  • Stayed at a Best Western. They claimed to have a restaurant. It was the Denny's across the parking lot. Had fun in the pool!
  • Slept on the sofa bed, got to watch my own television late into the night. Watched CSI and Star Trek Voyager/DS9 on Spike TV.
  • In the morning, I watched Sesame Street! Texas Telly looked for a golden triangle in an Indiana Jones style. Feist helped us count to four in song. Bert and Ernie are still sharing a room, but I suppose they only push the beds together when in the mood.
  • Ate breakfast at IHOP. Mmmm.
  • While in Salem, we went to the mansion of Asahel Bush, a newspaper tycoon from the late 1800's.
  • We took the long way home and my mom decided to take my sister and I to another hotel to make up for the experience she felt was poor at Best Western. We went to the Mariott Courtyard.
  • Ordered room service and ate a very nice bacon cheeseburger. Mom had a steak, (sister) Christine had chicken alfredo or something. We had really nice chocolate cake!
  • We ordered the movie Prom Night on the wide-screen television that distorts everything on it unless it's wide-screen. The movie is about a twisted man with an obsession with this high school girl, and he kills people by briefly putting his hands around his victims' necks and then I guess doing something more gruesome as the camera is focusing on something completely irrelevant in the room while the murder is being commited. It was like a 70's slasher film. The most gruesome murder was probably the one where he slashes the neck of the black chick, whose blood splatters against a window or something.
  • Hard to get comfortable in that bed, I tossed and turned.
  • Had the breakfast buffet, made my own waffle, more fun in the pool!
  • Had a baguette sandwich at Tutto Bene.
  • Went to the cinema and saw Traitor, the story of a deeply religious Muslim man who works with terrorists in order to destroy the arrogant sense of security of the western world, and then ends up betraying them, since of course, killing people is very un-Islamic. Of course, you can interpret the Qu'ran in any way you please (presuming that the Qu'ran is the bedrock of Islam), especially since there are verses which both discourage killing in general and encourage killing the infidels, apostates, and dishonored family members. Perhaps Muhammed came up with different rules depending on his mood or contemporary needs. Whatever the Qu'ran says, we need to convince Muslims that violence is un-Islamic. In the film, the audience is inspired to respect the main character Samir's excessive religious devotion. I even found myself happy when he came to the conclusion that killing innocent people is un-Islamic.
  • Had gelato!
  • Came home. A little disoriented from having been away from a computer so long, interacting with real people, but I'll get used to being back home. I wish I had my deep fried Twinkie. I don't take much solace in knowing that it's at least one less pound on that ugly little handle of fat on that lower back of mine.

religion, my life, fat-tastic
