Guess who I shot a party for last night.

Except for when it came to paying their photographer, that is. Good lord, I've never worked so hard for such a ridiculously low sum of money before. And the two-hour drive down in heavy traffic was really unpleasant, too.

Anyway, I did get lots of cool shots. Unfortunately for me but happily for my clients, even when I agree to shoot for stupid-low pay I always feel compelled to do my absolute best. I'm pretty happy with the shots from this event that I've seen so far.

I will say, though, if they want to hire me again in the future they'll need to pay my usual non-wedding event fee of $175.00 per hour. I agreed to take this job very last-minute (found out about it Tuesday night). Another photographer had originally agreed to do it but had an emergency come up and couldn't make it, so I was the stand-in. I don't know what the other guy was thinking, saying OK to such low wages for such a huge event hosted by such a wealthy client. Yikes.

Anyway, this was a "customer appreciation" event, so there were tons of people with money there and I took it as a good opportunity to get my business card into the hands of lots and lots of people who might be wanting portraits or might be planning weddings in the near future. Hopefully it will pay off. Also, my car will need a new timing belt soon so any spare money at all is way better than none at this point.

Anyway - here are some of my favorite shots after a cursory glance through the uploads this morning.

This ice sculpture cost way more than I did:

I <3 shutter drag:

I was fascinated by the glowing tables.

Here is another glowing table, this time with FOREGROUND INTEREST.

Actually, to be honest, this is more like a photo of a martini glass full of Caesar salad with foreground and background interest. I was so into the table that I didn't see the salad in front of the ice sculpture, but now I like the little splash of color.

Don't worry - I actually did use my flash a lot. My favorite pictures are always the dark ones with weird color and/or glowing areas, so that's what you're getting in this post. Just my favorites.

This shot should be in an ad. And if Lexus of Tacoma-Fife wants to use this photo in an ad, they will have to pay me much money to do so. Their contract states that they only get to make prints for non-commercial use. They'll probably use it anyway and just not tell me.

More shutter drag for your viewing enjoyment. I think this was a 1.6-second exposure, if I remember correctly. The party was held at the Museum of Glass, and this is the view from the rooftop.
