I know this series is like... old, but i just finished watching it yesterday. lol~ Anyway, it's been a long long time since i write a review, and this one seems to be a perfect article for a come back. Haha~
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The story starts when a liar expert, Joo Yoo Rin (played by Lee Da Hae), first met the heir of a large hotel, Seol Gong Chan (played by Lee Dong Wook) on a plane. She was trying to buy her friend some time to take some tourists who were late for the plane, by deceiving the airplane crew.
Anyway, skipped to the next part. It turned out that Yoo Rin's father was on a huge debt, and since her father ran away, she was chased by loan sharks. And to run from them, she lied again. When Gong Chan's car passed by, Yoo Rin jumped in front of the car and pretend to faint. So, Gong Chan brought her to hospital and the loan sharks couldn't follow her. In the hospital, Gong Chan left a name card to the nurses. When Yoo Rin found out that he was a rich guy, she -encouraged by her friend Jin Gyu- came to the hotel to ask for a compensation money. But Gong Chan outsmarted her and she didn't get a penny. But then Gong Chan needed a person who can speak Mandarin, so he hired Yoo Rin to work for a night at his vila.
Now homeless, Yoo Rin broke in to Gong Chan's villa and secretly lived there. Not only that, she also stole some oranges from Gong Chan's garden and sell them!! Long story short, he found out about her living there, and kicked her out.
Enters a rich playboy, Seo Jeong Woo (played by Lee Joon Ki). When he came to Jeju to meet Gong Chan, he accidentally met Yoo Rin and ended up saving her from the loan sharks (in an amazing fighting and fast-and-furious-like scene). Seeing her lively personality, Jeong Woo started to feel attracted by her.
Meanwhile, Gong Chan's grandfather was dying and his last wish is to meet his granddaughter that he once kicked out from the house. Gong Chan who couldn't find her and was desperate, decided to hire Yoo Rin to act as his long-lost cousin. Yoo Rin who was also in desperate need of money, finally said yes to Gong Chan's offer. And the lies began.....
Day by day, Gong Chan's grandfather started to become really fond of Yoo Rin and Yoo Rin had fallen to a really complicated matter, she started to have feelings for Gong Chan. The problem was, Gong Chan was already reunited with his ex-girlfriend, #1 Korean tennis player, Kim Seo Hyun (played by Park Si Yeon). So she decided to hide her feelings.
Meanwhile, Jeong Woo realized that he had found his true love, that is Yoo Rin. So he tried every way to get her (not in the evil way though), including booked the whole restaurant to propose to her!! Sadly, Yoo Rin always rejected him.
After a series of seriously-funny-scene, Gong Chan also realized that he had fallen for his (fake) cousin. And when Jeong Woo convinced Gong Chan of his feelings, he decided to end the lies and be with Yoo Rin. But things weren't that easy. The jealous Seo Hyun told Gong Chan's grandfather about the lies right before Gong Chan and Yoo Rin was about to ran away. And now that the lies are exposed, they're separated for good.... (or at least that's what the grandfather thought)
Two years later, Gong Chan who still couldn't forget about Yoo Rin, kept looking for her. When he was about to go to Japan to search for her, Jeong Woo saw Yoo Rin (now working as a tour guide) in the airport, but he lost her. He decided not to tell Gong Chan and search for her himself. Meanwhile, in the plane, Gong Chan also found out about Yoo Rin's location. So he flew back to Seoul (leaving him with no money), and confront Yoo Rin.
At first, the grandfather wouldn't let them be together. But after seeing that Yoo Rin was such a nice girl and Gong Chan was about to ran away from him (Gong Chan said that he would come back when he's ready to see his grandfather's face again. So, if we see through this words, we can conclude that Gong Chan said he's tired of seeing his grandfather's face. lol~), finally he let the couple together and ta-da!!! HAPPY ENDING!!!
So, my opinion for this movie is.... IT"S AMAZING!! The story was well-made, straight to the point, and most importantly.... there's always something that can make you laugh in every single episode! The ending was quite nice too, for a Korean movie, since other Korean series usually seemed to be forced for a happy ending. And what I love the most is that, there are no evil character. Okay, Seo Hyun was a bit bitchy, but then again, i think most of us can understand why she did the things she did. And then there's a cameo at the end by Han Chae Young and Jae Hee. Han Chae Young played Choi Ha Na, Gong Chan's real cousin while Jae Hee reprised his role as Lee Mong Ryong from Sassy Girl Chun Hyang. The soundtracks are also good, well-suited with the scenes. The only thing that I don't really like is that there are so many unnecessary tennis-playing scene by Seo Hyun. This is by far the best Korean series that I've watched.
CHARACTERSLee Da Hae as Joo Yoo Rin
Joo Yoo Rin is a lively-beautiful girl who is an expert at lying. She's super-duper funny. She rejected Jeong Woo a few times because she said she couldn't lie about love. She knew that she's in love with Gong Chan but decided not to show it because of Seo Hyun.
I like Yoo Rin, but one thing i don't like is the fact that she's willing to leave Gong Chan because of the promise she made to the grandfather and her guilt, while she promised to Gong Chan that she would never leave his side. I supposed she could just ran away with him instead, but that wouldn't be a nice story. Haha~ O yea, and one thing that I (and i believe every girl does) envy about her is that she can eat A LOT by not getting fat!!!
Lee Da Hae's acting was overall really good, not overact. And I was amazed with her language skills! She had to speak Japanese and Mandarin here and although her Mandarin accent is not perfect, it's still understandable. Another thing that I don't like is her hair and her clothes (fashion police, where are you???). One of my friend actually called her ugly because of her hair! Thank God she changed it at the last 3 episodes. She also sang on a few episode but I don't think she's good at it. Sorry!
Lee Dong Wook as Seol Gong Chan
The soon-to-be director of a large hotel. He dated Kim Seo Hyun, a professional tennis player, and was seriously in love with her that he couldn't forget about her until Yoo Rin came. At first he didn't like Yoo Rin at all, but all of us know what's gonna happen, right?
I like the fact that he opposed his grandfather when he was told not to see Yoo Rin again. And he also didn't give up on Yoo Rin until the end (♥♥♥).
Lee Dong Wook's acting wasn't as strong as in his newest drama, The Partner. But he reprised various roles here (in people's mind, like for example when some of the tourists thought he was Yoo Rin's bro that was looking for money. He acted like a gangster and it was really funny!), and he did a great job in it. The last few episodes really showed his acting skills (like crying hard) and he was really convincing. And I was amazed by his Japanese skills! His Japanese sounds really good!!
Lee Joon Ki as Seo Jeong Woo
Gong Chan's childhood friend. He's a playboy that has been said if his girlfriend is gathered, they can make an olimpiade!!! Although he's a playboy, he really fall for Yoo Rin and willing to do anything for her, including taking her to America to save her from being exposed although she clearly said that she has no feeling for him. He pulled himself away from this love game after knowing that the two of them really love each other.
I love the fact that he's willing to fight his mother for the girl he loved (♥♥♥♥♥ That's what every guy should do!!! lol~)
Lee Joon Ki's acting was really good in here. Although he's not the main character, his presence was really strong. This made me (and I believe some of other viewers too) wanted him to ended up with Yoo Rin! He also prove his acting skills here by giving a 'life' to the story and having a lot of crying scenes (by mean a lot, means A LOT). His expressions are not as good as Dong Wook's, but still acceptable. Joon Ki also speak a bit English in some of the scenes, and he was REALLY GOOD. I know i should've like the main characters, but I couldn't help but fall for him more than I fall for the others here :p
Park Si Yeon as Kim Seo Hyun
Gong Chan's ex-girlfriend. She left him for a tennis tournament (2 years before everything happened, no?). That time, Gong Chan was in deep mess because of the death of his parents, and she left him!! (<---This is what made Jeong Woo hated her and only willing to approve her with one hands open. lol!!!) She loved Gong Chan so much that he's willing to do anything to get her. But unlike Jeong Woo, she used the EVIL way to get him. Unfortunately for her, the more evil she became, the less he like her.
Park Si Yeon's acting wasn't bad but wasn't really good either. Her expressions are mostly the same, but still okay. I really like her fashion style here!
Favorite Character: Seo Jeong Woo
Favorite Scene:
- Jeong Woo saved Yoo Rin from the loan sharks at the beginning (He had caught my attention since then :D)
- Gong Chan and Yoo Rin baked a cake after Yoo Rin ate all her aunt's cake
Overall rating: 4.5 out of 5
