Dammit.
Honey Jasmine, the accidental-doggie, is missing. We put her out last night about midnight to go to the bathroom and we haven't seen her since.
My son keeps toddling to the door and saying "Jazz? Jazz? Oof oof?" which means "Where is my doggie-friend Jasmine? Can't the oof oof come back inside?" We keep calling for her but no luck yet. I feel like crying. We weren't even sure we wanted to keep her but then the baby started calling her by name and now she's gone and and...I DO want to keep her!!
When I called my husband his response was "Maybe this is God's way of telling you we weren't meant to keep her anyway." Which may be true, but I am just not one to go all "Serenity Prayer" and readily accept the things I cannot change. Laying down and letting life roll over me has never been one of my strong points - I'm all about affecting my own destiny.
So, I have stuffed the babies in coats and shoes and I'm popping them in the wagon. We are going on a dog hunt. In the cold. With rain coming. Hopefully we catch the dog and not just colds.
Acceptance my ass.

Edit: It's now 10 p.m. and still no sign of Honey. The kids and i walked about a mile in he neighborhood, then headed into the woods and hiked along the creek calling for her, but still no sign of the doggy. I called animal control but they hadn't picked her up either. When my husband came home I went out again alone but no luck. Not even a familiar bark for all my screaming.
So, I think it is one of three things...
1) Someone put her in a car and drove her away, possible but unlikely, as she had been abusd and would hardly even come to me after babying her for a week.
2) Someone has her in their house, again, a possibility. but she was so shy and, she was clean and smelled like Cucumber Melon Bath Gel so someone had to realize she had a home!
3) She had big nipples when The Naturalist brought her home. She wasnt' very big but...was she pregnant? Perhaps she is off in the woods birthing a litter? This is actually my hope. Maybe in a week or so she'll come wandering back with a gaggle of pups behind her!
I just wish she'd come home.
