We the kids to Fantasy Island today. Was a really nice day, in spite of the heat. There was enough air moving to keep it from being sweltering.
Arrived at around 2, after dropping off a couple packages going to Egypt (a first for me -- disk drives and cables, totalling $230 in shipping cost) at the post office. We bought season passes to Fantasy Island, for the kids, so we needed our IDs. Had our pictures taken for the IDs, which were actually kinda funny. T's ID actually has three people in it...
Kids went on a bunch of rides, got a snack, and watched the westernish show thing they do in the main courtyard. H took the kids over to get their deputy badges, and came back all weepy and stuff. It didn't take much for me to figure out that she was being nostalgic... ;-) So, we went to the other side of the park, with the bigger rides, and I actually got on the "Sizzler" with The Son. This is the first time in, I have no idea how long, that I've actually gone on a ride of some sort. It was funny, too. H and T were on another ride, The Pirate, and I could hear her squeal from all the way over there. ;-) Anyway, this is one of the spirograph-type ones, with the high centripetal force. Once I stopped trying to fight it, and just let go, I figured out that I can handle those types. I even went on the Tilt-A-Whirl, too. All four of us fit into the one car.
No arguments really to speak of, either. S wanted to buy a toy gun, after seeing the western show. He actually went up to one of the "cowboys" and asked how their guns made the "special effects", and he was told that the guns are real, but just don't use real bullets. So, S decided he wanted one, but we put our foot down. I grew up with myriad toy guns, in the post-Vietnam era (which in and of itself is odd; my mother was a pacifist, and so was my aunt, who bought me my first toy gun...), but H and I have decided that we're just not going to do the toy gun thing. From a practical standpoint, we just don't need another line of toys to be cropping up like that. We do also have a somewhat philosophical issue with them, but we might change our minds if he starts acting more responsible. We're just going to leave my toy guns (some home-made, some inert, some "paper caps", some "plastic caps"...) at my parents' house.
Went to a new Chinese buffet on Grand Island, which was really good. They actually had some decent sushi, too. Mostly vegetarian, except for some shrimp, but it was artistically constructed. Gave me a couple ideas for the next time we host a sushi dinner.
Alrighty, going to watch some Chrono Crusade (anime) with my little girl, and will call it a night. She has a craft show tomorrow, and we're beat.
