I usually shoot sunsets from my terrace, but I was walking on 23rd Avenue in Astoria, NY when I saw this. There was no place to shoot from! I knew two good places, my terrace and an overpass at the Astoria Boulevard train station. I couldn't get to either of them. I did all that I could do. I walked down a street, 28th Street, where there were shorter buildings. There were still trees and telephone lines. No matter. The sunset wouldn't last. I had to shoot whatever I could. At least I had the good fortune to have my DSLR with me. I could have been limited to a small, but good, point & shoot camera that I always carry in a case on my belt. I didn't play around with this photo. It's essentially straight from the camera. It was a spectacular sunset!
I'm still living in Astoria, NY, and I love it. Every time I think I miss living in Manhattan, I go there. That changes my mind every time. I'm a short train ride from Midtown Manhattan, but mostly I stay in Astoria or travel to other neighborhoods in Queens. I enjoy the small town feel of Astoria as well as the ethnic diversity. I enjoy a good view from my window, something I never had in Manhattan. I always looked out onto the building across the street. There was no privacy. I'm on the sixth floor here and most buildings are small. I overlook roofs and one building about a half block away. Life is good!
I'll be back soon. I've managed to detach one of the tabs from Semagic and want to spend some time putting it back in place.
