Tomorrow is Olivia's 4th birthday party. (Her birthday is actually the 12th.) For the past three days I've been working on a play mat for the Playmobil pirates and fairy sets she's been getting. Today I added in baking. I've made 6 large cupcakes, a dozen regular cupcakes, and countless
cake balls shaped like little mushrooms. Unfortunately, I managed to screw up the oh-so-simple candy coating, so I have about a dozen really ugly tiny mushrooms (but they're still quite yummy). For the remaining cakeballshrooms, I just dipped the tops in icing.
It took me 3 boxes of cake mix (2 strawberry, 1 lemon), 9 eggs, 1 2/3 containers of cream cheese icing, 1 package of vanilla candy melts, and about 6 hours to make all the cupcakes. I do have to say, the cupcakes are damn cute. They were dipped in red (pink, really) icing and white M&Ms were added as mushroom spots. The second batch of tiny cakeballshrooms were dipped in white icing and have red mini M&M spots.
The playmat was coming along awesomely. I didn't like a wave effect I did in the water portion, so I painted over it and we all liked that a lot more. This afternoon Livi and I started painting flowers in the grassy part until I had to get to work on the cupcakes, then Dale took over flower painting. I have to say he really did an awesome job, better than I was doing! (And he tells me he has no artistic talent. Pah!) Unfortunately, while Dale was working on the mat, Livi stepped on some of his freshly painted flowers, then backtracked over the water gradient. Then she dropped her jello snack onto the mat.
That led to some massive yelling from me that I really regret. I stopped as soon as Livi burst into tears and said, "I'm SORRY!" I immediately cuddled her up and apologized, then explained why her Dad and I got so upset. Dale finished up his flower work on the mat, but I still have to fix the spots on the water and do any final touches.
We also have to wrap her presents. Oh, crap! I have to finish another one of her presents! And finish washing her birthday outfit for tomorrow.
So with all that to do, it's only natural that I'm sitting here, typing up an LJ post.
