I had another prenatal check up this morning, with ultrasound. Unfortunately, the babe didn't want to show her face so we didn't get any pics this time, though we did get to see an ear, so at least she has one of those. The tech also asked when I'm due. I noticed that as she was doing measurements, "EDDs" (Estimated Due Dates) were displaying 3-8 days earlier than my due date. When I asked, the tech confirmed that the baby is measuring big for her gestational age. She's over 6lbs now and I think should be a little under 6. Otherwise, everything looked good.
As expected, I was asked to pee in a cup. Unexpectedly, after looking at the test strip, the nurse put a sample of my pee into a test tube and disappeared. Moments later she popped her head back in to ask if I've been eating well lately. I told her not really, then asked what was wrong. She said my ketones were high. I confirmed that they have been the past few days and that I was still morning sicks, and the nausea has been really bad this week. She kept popping in and out of the room for the next few minutes asking things like whether I was on insulin, who I was seeing about the diabetes, etc. Basically, all stuff that should be in my records. Another nurse came in and said that the doc would probably talk to me about getting on Zofran for the nausea. I told her I was already on it. I take it once a day, in the morning, when I'm nauseous. She started to say something about upping to the 8mg dose and I said that's what I'm already taking. Then she disappeared and reappeared suggesting I try Phenergan. I told her I already had, once, and had a bad enough reaction that I refuse to take it again. After that, we (Dale and Livi were there too) were left alone for quite a while.
When the doc finally came in, he patted me on the leg, asked how I was feeling, then never mentioned ketones or nausea meds. He confirmed that the baby is a little large, saying she'd probably be over 9lbs at birth. Well, that's what they said about Olivia and she was a little over 7lbs. The baby's size doesn't matter much as long as she's healthy, because I'm going to have another C-section. I scheduled it with one of the other doctors at the practice (my regular's son, in fact) a few weeks ago. The delivery is set for Oct 13, but doc didn't seem happy when I told him I didn't have a specific time, that his son had just said "noon-ish." (Someone else had to confirm the time with the hospital.) He said he wanted to move it up to 7:30am. I don't really care what time it happens, as long as they don't try to move the date forward, since my parents are making travel plans to be here based on the date I was given.
I was sent down the hall to talk to some woman about the exact time. She told doc that 7:30 was taken, so I was officially on the schedule for noon. My doc actually said, "don't they know who it's for?" She looked at him and said, "they don't care." I mentally snorted to myself at that. Then I was told that the patient already scheduled for 7:30am 'may deliver early' in which case they'd bump me up to that time slot. Whatever.
As we left the hospital area, Dale complained that he doesn't like my ob/gyn or his staff. I'm not thrilled either (though I do like a few of the nurses a lot), but it's rather late in the game to go doc hunting.
Oh, doc told me they'd want me to have weekly ultrasounds now, probably to keep an eye on the baby's size. I have my next three appointments scheduled, along with the C-section. Less than a month, and we'll have another daughter!
