Glucose is not yummy

A couple of weeks ago I had my first regular prenatal check up. The usual stats were checked, the baby's heartbeat was listened to, I was given some pamphlets about different topics, and I left behind a decent amount of blood. I asked when I would get the results of the bloodwork (though I was only concerned about the glucose tolerance test) and ( Read more... )

man, I had to do a FIVE hour glucose tolerance test and it was horrible. I felt so weak and sick. I can't imagine doing it while pregnant.

I hate hearing bad nurse stories. Sorry she was stupid, unprepared, and silly.

And I hope you get good news. But bother Shitty Nurse until you get a copy of the labwork to be sure.

It's not even your field/department(?), but oh, I'd love to have you as my nurse! :D

OB scares the hell out of me. I spent my OB rotation in complete awe and wonder. Diabetes, I know a lot about though.

But thanks:)

it's just SO different than any other kind of nursing I've done...and being responsible for both a mother and fetus/newborn is intimidating. Fetuses don't even have the same blood circulation as already-born-humans! It was both amazing and intimidating to learn all about fetal development.

Heh, it is pretty intimidating to be responsible for a fetus and newborn as the parent. Don't eat this, don't drink that, don't lift that, stay away from the litterbox, take these vitamins.... Then you spend the next chunk of your life saying those same things to the kid. :D

Actually, it's also pretty awesome. :D

hell, even just TTC feels that way. Don't ingest this, don't do that, etc.

OMG, no kidding! And when you're going through ART, it's also, inject this, inject that, insert this, but DON'T ACTUALLY HAVE SEX. Seriously, for a couple of weeks prior and almost a month after, I wasn't allowed to have sex. Or at least any type that's really fun for ME. ;P
