The Coffee House: Java Central
Location: Downtown Westerville, Ohio
I was a little disappointed coming into Java Central, because I was expecting a manual espresso machine shot and instead got the ’ole automatic. Vaguely hypocritical coming from a Starbuckian, I suppose. I just wanted some serious handcrafting, you know? Ended up getting an Iced Latte and it was pretty tasty. The shot was obviously not a wussy soccer mom shot like you’d get from the pre-upgrade Verisimos. (If you didn’t follow that, it’s okay... was pretty much for the Starbucks-clued folks only)
The decor is a unique, with several separate rooms at the back of the shop. One dubbed the "library" is a reasonably-sized community meeting room with a big table. Reservable I’m told. The others have Victorian chairs and couches. And then out in a hallway are some patio-style tables and chairs that are pretty nice for doing one’s free wifi internetty business. At first, it looked like this wouldn’t be enough space for people, but given the relative lack of clientèle... it was more than enough.
My main beef was that the table I was forced to (due to it being the only one w/ a reasonable amount of room next to an outlet) was right underneath a speaker playing some crappy Sirius coffee house station. It was relatively loud too. I had to pump the soundtracks and Kraftwerk in my iTunes to drown it out. Maybe make the music less loud, methinks.
All in all, not bad but also not terribly memorable either.
I plan on checking out Heavenly Cup next time I go out for a change of scenery.
