2011 semi-update... for what it's worth

it appears i've somehow managed to project my dreaded year of the rabbit misfortunes outward this year. while the world has experienced an apparent disproportionate level of chaos, i've managed to keep myself under the badness radar. mitigation strategies? well, if there's anything to any religion or belief system, i've had it covered... i'm currently carrying around four buddhas (one of which is hanging around my neck), i've spun whirly things, lit candles, pasted goldleaf on various statues, set fish/birds free, given money to bizarrely bearded holy men, maintained numerous (now rather festy) pieces of coloured string around my wrist, had countless tikka-ings, reflectively entered pretty much every temple/church/mosque i've come across, developed a nightly star-wishing ritual, and actively avoided indoor umbrella opening, crack-stepping and walking under ladders. my sincerest apologies to anyone in japan, the middle east, somalia/kenya, ivory coast, DRC, etc who has suffered from my redirected calamity. though for me, it's been a comparatively uneventful year - and, incidentally, the first year in many that i didn't get to a new country.

let's see... highlights (for what they're worth):
1. voluntarily (why oh why?) entrenched myself in 2-years of contracted wage servitude.
2. pretended i was young my moshing at linkin park (BKK).
3. pretended i was younger by purchasing brighton rock from brighton pier.
4. realising i wasn't actually that young after all by walking up and down a mountain (and forgetting to pack topical pain relief stuff).

hmm... there has to be more... no, not really. no major groundbreaking adventures. no significant developments on the interpersonal relationship front. no report-worthy epiphanies. no momentous lifestyle adjustments. a year of comparatively mundane status quo and consolidation.

so rock on year of the dragon... together we shall do fabulous, bloggable things. oddly enough, before i realised the new year started on 23 january, i'd booked a flight which has me spending the first day of the year discovering seoul (before flying to hawaii). oh yes... it's going to be a kick-arse year.
