and then the gods relented

...probably because they were sick of my whining.

So to ease the grumpiness caused by this morning's rain-on-my-yardwork day, I thought some retail therapy was in order. First trip was to Portland Nursery. Now 9am on a rainy Sunday is the perfect time to go. Less tourists, more time to quietly contemplate my purchases. I escaped with my wallet mostly unscathed because while there was plenty there I WANTED, I know damn well I don't have room/time for new stuff right now. What I did have time for was tomatoes, lettuce starts, hot peppers, parsley, sage, basil and summer squash. I started seeds earlier this year in the greenhouses at work, but they needed the space back, so the poor seedlings went from hot to cold and cold and cold and then the f'n slugs ate the majority of them. Feh. I bought a couple of Nicotiana, too, to plant somewhere near the deck so we'll have that sweet smell in the evenings when they are blooming.

Trip #2 - T came along for this one. We've been contemplating either two new recliners or a reclining love seat from La-z-boy. So after a  coffee and breakfast sandwich stop, we headed over to check out what they had. I think we've decided on two separate recliners, but because of the price, we'll buy one for T's birthday this year and then follow up with another one at tax time next year for my birthday. We're swearing off purchasing stuff with credit cards unless it's an emergency and I don't think leather recliners fit into that category. After that it was off to the Container Store to buy a bunch of...well...containers. We want to have all our bulk grains and flour in bug proof containers in the the pantry to keep the critters out, so I blew a wad and now everything is tidily in it's new containers. Sweet! Yay for organization!

Retail therapy was just the thing.

After shopping, the gods saw fit to turn off the water works, so I got some time in in the garden. I planted five varieties of tomatoes, bush beans, a second round of snap peas, carrots, yellow and red beets, three types of basil, carrots, lettuce, baby salad greens, summer squash, and the pathetic remains of some kholrabi and cabbage from the earlier seeding. I don't know if the latter will actually live, but we shall see. I also potted up seedlings from this year's seed experiments. I got only of the 10 Mandragora seeds to sprout, but it was the super rare variety, so I'm please and gave it its own pot to hopefully thrive in. And before I cam in for the evening, I cut the first bouquet of flowers from the garden - roses and false indigo with fernleaf tansy and catmint as filler and the first peony of the season too. YUM!  OY - my legs will be feeling it tomorrow.

Hoping to get in some time to start organzing/cleaning the sewing room. What  a pit. I feel a purge coming on.
