Mike wasn’t entirely sure how he’d been conned into this nonsense. He imagined that Peter had gone all pouty-faced on him, and that he didn’t have a choice in the matter.
“Come on, Michael. At least try and look like you’re having some fun….”
Mike turned a sun-glasses covered glare at Peter lying on the towel nearby. “Why’re we out here again?”
Peter sat up slowly and stretched. “Because….Micky wanted to surf, and Davy wanted to flirt with that ice cone girl, and I wanted to take a sun nap. And you never come out with us, and we miss you…”
Mike felt a faint blush go across his cheeks that he blamed on the sun.
“….You never really go out with anyone, Michael. Micky and Dave told me I needed to help you find a date today….”
This time it was a definite blush. “Uh, Pete, I really don’t think that’s necessary….”
“Sure it is!”
Mike turned around. Micky was standing behind them, salt water dripping from his curls. He sat down on the other side of Mike.
“You never do anything for fun…You’ll get an ulcer.”
Mike had to chuckle. “Thanks guys. I just….I dunno….Maybe California girls just aren’t my type….”
Right as Mike said this, a girl wearing a bright red bikini top and a pair of denim cut-off shorts walked past, swinging her hips and waving her long blonde hair. Mike’s eyes followed her as she passed by, his mouth dropping open slowly. He felt every erythrocyte in his body converge in one convenient location below his navel…
Now, he really knew he was blushing as Micky and Peter cracked up.
