Chapter six: The truth at last

The two men stepped forward and stood next to their respected women.

“With pleasure. Thanks.” The larger man said

As expected his voice was deep, and yet it was not low and throaty. He slid his glasses up his nose and looked at the others in the room. The other man placed an arm around HellAnne’s back. The others approached them to greet them. HellAnne and Zonah looked at The Monkees.

“Guys,” Zonah waved a hand to the larger man “This is my boyfriend Freddie Stein. He’s a scientist and a distant relative to Dr. Victor Frankenstein.”

Freddie’s demeanor softened and he grinned kindly “Hello.”

“And this is um…” HellAnne sheepishly grinned as she looked mainly at Micky “This is Heathen Hellfire.” She nervously clasped her hands together in front of her waist

“Hellfire?” Micky looked stunned at her

“Um… yeah. I have another confession. Heathen isn’t my boyfriend… he’s my husband.”

“Husband?” Micky’s jaw dropped “But you… and I… and we…”

HellAnne smiled nervously “Heeheehee… sorry Micky."

Heathen stepped towards Micky “So you’re messing around with a married woman?”

“I swear I had no idea! If I did I wouldn’t have done anything!”

Heathen flicked his wrist and pointed as a single flame shot out towards Micky’s feet, causing Micky and the other three Monkees to jump “You better not.”

After seeing Heathen do this The Monkees backed away in fear. Heathen softened his expression to a much kinder one.

“So sorry. I’m really not normally like this. I don’t know what got into me.”

“Honestly, Mr. Hellfire, sir, I apologize for anything I’ve done with your lovely wife here. Like I said, I had no idea she was even married. Please don’t shoot any more f-fire from your body.”

Bean went up to Heathen and whispered something in his ear. Heathen then nodded in understanding and whispered the same thing to Freddie. Freddie took a step forward and cleared his throat.

“Please excuse Heathen. He really normally doesn’t react that way, especially in front of people who don’t know about us. Or them rather.” He motioned to Heathen and the girls “You see… how do I put this without frightening you guys any more?” he paused and then his face lit up “Ah I know!”

Zonah rolled her eyes with a groan “Oh God please don’t…”

“Zonah… could you bring George to me?”

Zonah sighed with disdain “Fine.”

Zonah turned her back to everyone for a moment so they wouldn’t see what she was doing. With a wave of her hand she produced a teddy bear from thin air. The bear had a small lab coat and bear-sized black lab gloves just like the ones that Freddie wore. She then turned around and tossed the bear to Freddie. Freddie caught the bear with his face before it fell into his arms.

“There’s your stupid damn bear!”

“Thanks.” He paused “George isn’t a stupid bear!” Zonah just rolled her eyes at him “Any way this is George.” He held the bear up to his face and lovingly snuggled it “He goes where ever I go, don’t you George? Yes you do!” He cleared his throat and contained his composure “Any way George is going to help me explain things to you.” He held the bear in front of his face and heightened his voice as he moved the bear around to make it appear to be talking “Freddie is the only mortal human in this group of strange people before you. The others are only in human form. They are not like you.”

The Monkees looked at each other and then at Freddie and George. They weren’t sure whether to laugh or call the nice men in white to come and take Freddie away. (Peter, however, seemed to be genuinely amused by the talking bear) Freddie was about to have George say something else when Zonah took the bear away from him. She then hit him over the head with it.

“Grow up already, will ya?”

Freddie gave a little pout “Sorry.”

Bean decided to step forward in order to finish Freddie’s explanation “Guys… I’m sure you’ve already begun to figure things out since you already began giving us the third degree. Plus some of us haven’t been the most careful about certain things they may have done in front of you.” She looked at HellAnne, Zonah and Ghoulia “Freddie’s right. We are not mortal, or human for that matter. Freddie is the only one who is.”

“So that means that you really are…” Mike started

Bean nodded “I’m a real banshee, yes.”

“And you’re…” Davy pointed at Zonah

“A witch, babe.”

Peter looked at Ghoulia “And that means you really are…”

Ghoulia became transparent “Yup. A ghost.”

Micky looked at HellAnne “Then you must be a… um… what are you some kind of demon?”

“I’m a dark angel. Half demon, half angel. Was kicked out of Heaven many years ago.”

“I’m a full demon, by the way.” Heathen said as he stood by HellAnne’s side

“We’re so sorry about all of this, guys. But we try to hide this about ourselves because we never know how people are going to react when they find out. We’re not bad and we never meant any harm to anyone. It’s just that we have a hard time fitting in being the way that we are.” Bean paused and then turned into the old woman image, hovering a little above the floor “Oh and Bean Sidhe literally translates into Banshee, in case you were still wondering.” Her voice was still nice and sweet even though her appearance was frightening

The Monkees still remained stunned as they stood there silently staring at them. The four of them suddenly found themselves without the ability to speak. At first they felt as though this was all just one hell of an amazing Halloween prank that ran on for days after the holiday. But when their minds failed to come up with some sort of logical possibility for all these supernatural occurrences to be taking place, they realized that this was all too real. The other six, knowing that they were the cause of this great wave of awkward, and uncomfortable silence, stepped closer to the door as though to leave.

“We know this is a shock to all of you,” Heathen started “And we sincerely apologize for all of this. But for now we feel it’s best that um… that we no longer associate with each other, otherwise things could get much weirder between us.”

As they said goodbye and were about to leave, Davy regained his ability to talk.

“Wait!” He walked up to Zonah “There’s still something that keeps bothering me about you.”

“You mean besides the fact that I’m a witch?” She smirked lightly

“Yes, that.” He stepped closer to where he would be (due to the height difference) about face to face with her “That bloody mole of yours keeps changing position on your face!”

She looked at him innocently “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

After her statement which left Davy and the other three guys dumbfounded, she produced her witch hat from nowhere and placed it on her head before disappearing. The Hellfire’s engulfed themselves in flames before disappearing in a puff of smoke. Bean, who was still in her old woman form, floated away out the door. Ghoulia, transparent like before, grinned at Peter before blinking out of sight completely. Freddie picked up George (that Zonah had left behind on the floor) and held him close before turning and walking out the door.

For a moment the four remaining guys stood there silently, still trying to process what they had just witnessed. Mike then went over to the door and closed it. When he turned around to look at the other three guys he held an expression on his face that read “what the fuck was that?!” The other three shrugged together, just as confused as he was. They then shuddered together, feeling a bout of the heebie-jeebies. They had encountered some strange people before, but none of them had compared to this particular group. They weren’t sure what happened or if they would see those people again. But they didn’t know if they even wanted to. At this point they were ready to get back to what they considered to be normal lives.

Yet another day had gone by. The Monkees were still a little frazzled over the events that had taken place the past few days, especially the day before. They never dreamt, even in a nightmare, that they would one day encounter such supernatural immortal creatures, let alone have them as next door neighbors and friends. Davy still couldn’t believe, and let it be known a few times that he couldn’t believe it, that Zonah actually turned him down for Freddie. Micky also repeated out loud that he couldn’t believe that HellAnne neglected to inform him that she was married to Heathen. And, even though they had witnessed it first hand, neither of them could believe that the group, with an acceptation for Freddie, was these immortal creatures in human form. This actually was like a strange real life nightmare that all four of them were sharing.

That morning they went about awkwardly as they continued to think about their new neighbors and what they had learned about them. They decided, going along with what Heathen said the night before, it really was best for them to no longer see or talk to the girls. If they avoided them then they felt that they would be able to forget all about what they had experienced. After all, with all the other strange things that they had gone through over the years, they were able to completely deny and forget about those things ever happening to them. So going along with that notion with these girls should have been just as easy.

Mike Micky and Davy started out not having a hard time at all with their denial. Peter on the other hand did begin to have trouble with denial of his own. He could not get his mind off of Ghoulia. She was the first girl in a while who actually seemed to care about him perhaps more than as a friend. And he did have a lot of fun with her on their date. The two of them, despite the fact that she was a ghost, had just begun to get to know each other and he felt that he could really like her. But now he was supposed to be forgetting that she ever existed. This was proving to be next to impossible for him.

Taking notice to this forlorn air that surrounded Peter, the other three guys tried talking to him in hopes of cheering him up. Then after wiping away Peter’s tears, and discussing what they should do, the guys changed their minds about avoiding the girls.

“Well guys, the past few days,” Mike said “we have been bewitched, spooked, banshee’ed and… um… set on fire by these four very lovely girls.”

“Right.” Micky Davy and Peter said together

“And now we’re trying to avoid them even though they have become good friends of ours.”

“Right.” They said, a little sadder

“But why are we avoiding them? Because they are not mortal? Because they’re not like us?” The three of them looked at him “Since when have we tried to avoid someone because they weren’t like us? That’s not hip and we know it.”

“Right!”

“So, Monkees, let’s go over there and see the girls! There’s no reason why we all can’t still be friends!”

Peter’s face brightened “You mean I get to see Ghoulia after all?”

Micky placed a hand on Peter’s shoulder “As long as she’s not invisible any way, being a ghost and all.”

“Well then.” Said Davy “What are we waiting for?”

They all made a beeline for the front door. After a brief struggle as they all made an attempt at exiting the door at the same time, they got unstuck and straightened themselves out. They then walked next door to the girls’ house. When they reached the door they knocked on it. There wasn’t any kind of answer but the door was unlocked. The guys shrugged and then opened the door. As they walked inside they looked around at the nearly empty house. Some of the furniture was still there but the decorations were all gone. (Including the pink fuzzy marionette monster that usually hung out in the living room area) They looked around the place disappointed (Peter more so than the others) as they realized that the girls had moved out. Micky walked over to the empty bandstand and spied a piece of paper laying on it. He picked it up and began to quietly read it.

“Hey guys come here. I found a note.” The other three stood behind him, looking over his shoulders at the note in his hand as he read it out loud “Dear Monkees. We leave this with heavy hearts. You four have become such good friends to us over these past few days and because of that we regret what we have to do. We all feel that it’s time for us to leave. We have gone far away to another place and another time. But we hope that maybe one day we will be able to meet up with the four of you again. Thank you all for your time and friendship. We shall always cherish the four of you. Sincerely, Bean Sidhe, HellAnne Hellfire, Ghoulia Spirit, and Zonah Spellweaver.”

They all looked at each other and sighed. Peter began to cry.

“They’re gone!” The other three comforted him

Then they all turned sadly and headed back to their house. They had no idea how much these girls had actually impacted their lives until that moment. The girls were gone but were far from forgotten by The Monkees.
