I need a new job

May 31, 2006 11:17

You know, I used to love my job. I used to hate that I only worked part time and certain people would piss me off, but I used to like it. Now I work full time and everyone pisses me off. I need to vent about yesterday.

For two or three days now my laptop has been timing out after one e-mail download. Well, because I am in charge of inventory for certain stores in the company the accounting clerks in the office send me information on every store in the company. So if Bob in Ohio pays the Pepsi guy with a check but never enters the invoice for Pepsi, Sue in the office scans her copy of the bill, attaches the huge image file to an e-mail and sends it to Bob, me and all of the other inventory people. Because for Sue in the office that is way easier than checking to see if I'm even in charge of Bob's store.

There are 100 stores that probably receive up to seven vendors a day. My e-mail load is atrocious. I had 74 e-mails yesterday when the tech guy showed up and I could only download one at a time. No way.

So he tried to send my e-mail, confirmed my problem and made a few phone calls. Then he came back to me...

"Your problem is, the office put a 3 minute restriction on e-mail. The server was overloaded so now no one is allowed more than 3 minutes on dial-up. Since you have a whole ton of scanned files it's taking about 3 minutes each to download. So, if you can get to a high speed connection you can do it that way."

No I can't. I pissed off the guy in the office who sets up the high speed. I have cable internet at my house. He wanted me to go to an orientation meeting 3 hours away about what not to do on the internet. I went over his head and told a supervisor that I wasn't driving 3 hours to hear about how I shouldn't look at porn on my company laptop and got my orientation meeting canceled. So... Melinda can only use dial-up.

The tech guy says, "Oh. So I guess just keep hitting redial."

I said, "Okay. I'll just contact someone at my company and make sure I get paid hourly for as long as it takes me to hit redial on all 74 of those e-mails and your company gets billed for it."

He made a phone call. They called the controller (she's like the number 3 guy in the company). She called back with her solution. I have to overnight my laptop to them. They will go in and manually put all 94 (by the end of my conversation with tech guy) e-mails on it. Then they will overnight it to my job site on Friday.

And as if that weren't head breaking enough the tech guy says to me, "I can actually fix your problem. I can set you up with high speed. It would take about 30 minutes, but she's made her decision and I can't just go ahead and do my own thing." FUCK!
