"Defenders of speciesism often argue that humans are superior to other species because of their greater intelligence. Taken to its logical extreme, this argument would imply that humans with higher I.Q. scores should have more rights than humans with lower I.Q. scores."http://www.svar.org

Thank you for taking the time to tell me what I already mentioned with those links. Very insightful to read the same thing I said. With the exception of crows (and so I don't forget this time, ravens) I already mentioned primates and cetaceans using tools. Cool. Once again. Thanks for doing the research for me.

Why do you ask if I'm a vegetarian? Do I have to be to be credible? What exactly does that matter to the conversation?

I never said anyone "here" was being extreme. I simply stated that people who do (such as to some extent the person who made the quote that Joelle originally posted) really bother me because they think that as long as they can find a way to say something, it's correct.

FOR THE RECORD: I'm absolutely against torturing animals. I'm in agreeance that it's wrong. A life is a life is a life and I believe all life must be treated with respect. There is a food chain, though, and animals are going to die to feed other animals. I can accept that, and hell, I participate. I'm not okay with companies that chop of chicken's beaks and keep them in cages where they can't stand up or move. I'm really not. I think it's cruel and terrible. I'm still however, okay with killing them for food. It's how they're treated up until then that I have a problem with. If someone presented to me a calm and rational method for making things like this stop, I'd be all for it and I'd get in there and make it happen. However, up until now, I've only heard cries of, "FOOD COMPANIES ARE EVIL AND THEY TORTURE LITTLE BAAAAABIES!!!!!" And quite frankly, I'm sick of it. And it's okay that I'm sick of it. It's annoying. It's counterproductive. IT'S NOT HELPING MOVE THINGS FORWARD. To do that, you need to be able to come to a middle ground, and extremeists (as far as I've seen) are incapable of such.

Anyway. I'm done arguing on the internet. It's like trying to get a square block through a round hole; it's just never going to work.

Take your own advice and don't participate in conversations or form opinions. It'll make the world hurt far less.

There are better ways! But here is a secret, it isn't the kind you personally eat!! The cheap foods are generally produced the cheapest (read: inhumane) ways. Watch "Earthlings" with me. If you are soo against the horrors, why do you still pay money for it to be done? The problem is that you speak with your dollars, and right now your dollars say that you don't give any kind of species' right arse cheek for farm animals welfare.

I agree that its like trying to get a square block through a round hole, getting a better idea into someone's square and society-conditioned brain is sure tough.
