The noodle and I went to summer sonic in tokyo yesterday.
http://www.summersonic.com It was a 2 day event in 2 locations, we only went to 1 day because we really wanted to see NIN.
We got there around 2:30pm, got our wristbands and figured out where stuff was. there were 3 or 4 stages in a convention center, a "dance tent" across the street and another stage in the baseball stadium next door. we hung out in the dance tent for a while, then headed into the stadium. saw part of the slipknot show from the bleachers, then headed down to the field. while we were down there slipknot got everyone on the field to kneel/squat down then everyone jumped up at the same point of the song they were playing. that was pretty cool. pushed our way though bouncing japanese up towards the stage. by the time they started setup for NIN we were 2 people from the railing. made it though 3 or 4 songs there, but the noodle got nocked over and almost squished so we bailed. found a nice spot off to the side and watched the rest from there. oh yeah, i got kicked in the head by a crowd surfer, and used as a ladder by another one. I guess being one of the tallest people in the crowd does have its drawbacks.
as soon as the lights went down after the last song there was a fireworks show which was pretty cool. after that we headed back though the crowd to where we were standing cause the noodle had lost something. we spent about 15 minutes looking for it and found about 333 shoes, 2 rings, a necklace, 1000 yen ($10), a big earing, an mtv pin, a drink bottle lanyard, a wallet chain and 222 towels. never did find the noodles item, but oh well.
NIN started with pinion (of course) and played, not in order, closer, sin, starfuckers, wish, happiness in slavery, down in it, you know what you are, the hand that feeds and a few more that i can't seem to remember. during starfuckers at the bit where trent keeps saying "don't you" the crowd started chanting "don't you" and the huge tv's were showing close ups of his face. the crowd chanted for so long that he stared smiling and finally said "ok, enough", it was pretty funny. we caught the last possible train and made it back home a little after 1am.
he does such great shows. slipknot was pretty good but NIN kicked their ass.
