Drove to Cleveland last night to see Brand New at the Grog Shop. It was the smallest Brand New show I've ever been to. No barrier, very front. So fun. Went with Val and a kid named Kyle, from the Co-op. He didn't have a ticket and planned to try and sneak in or get an extra ticket from some where. We got there early so we could wander a bit and eat dinner. We checked out a super sketchy record/bong/porn shop nearby, as well as this vintage toy store, which was pretty awesome. Val and I went to a place called the Winking Lizard Tavern for an awesome beer and burger dinner, while Kyle tried to track down a ticket. After dinner we met up with Scott, the editor of Alt Press, and it was decided that Scott was going to say he had a plus two, one for his friend and one for Kyle. It worked like a charm. The door guy didn't even bother checking, as Scott goes to so many shows that he is friends with the door guy. We walked in and the opening band, Robbers, were just finishing up, and Brand New played immediately. They played for an hour and a half. Thanks to Scott, here's the setlist:
Your Favorite Weapon - The Shower Scene, Jude Law And A Semester Abroad, Mixtape, Seventy Times 7, Soco Amaretto Lime
Deja Entendu - Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades, Okay I Believe You But My Tommy Gun Don't, The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows, Jaws Theme Swimming, Play Crack The Sky
Beer: The Movie soundtrack - Flying At Tree Level v1.0
TDAGARIS - Sowing Season (Yeah), Jesus Christ, Degausser, You Won't Know, The Archer's Bows Have Broken
New Record - Bride, Gasoline
I've been to more shows this year than I have in a long, long time. This was by far one of the most memorable shows I've ever seen.
