Let's see what's happened since the last post...

Ed and I grill often. We've been trying variations on chicken, steaks, and shrimp.

My brother is in a band (singer) called Like Orange Skies. They had their first gig at Kingston's Tycoon Flats. It's a Jamaican BBQ place with a patio. I remember going there in college. They did pretty good for first timers and a lot of their friends came out to support them.

The paint sprayer died so we haven't painted anymore of the house. We haven't had anymore pipes break which is fantastic.

For Labor Day weekend we went gambling with my sister and her husband. Didn't win but didn't lose too much either. Or should I say didn't spend too much since my sister had already paid for the hotel and the gas. I filled her tank when we got back but it was only $25. Plus all of our meals were comped. We had a good time.

Thursday was my day off so I decided to do something good and unselfish (for a change). I went to a local warehouse that was taking donations and brought several backpacks I'd bought so that the kids that were evacuated here could get back into school. They were really desperate for volunteers so I spent the day packing school supplies into backpacks. There was a list of items that corresponded to each grade or age group -binders, notebooks, activity books or leisure reading books, pens, pencils, crayons, markers, compass, scissors, etc. And every pack whether it was for a 3rd grader or high schooler got a toy or beanie baby or something extra. Then we packed up the full packs to be brought to local schools that had kids in need. A box with 8 filled packs is quite heavy. All that lifting was hard work but for a good cause.

Saturday we went out to Bill and Hope's out near Medina lake for his birthday. It was pouring and the power went out. Hope couldn't find her candles right away and their flashlights were dead. We were all trying to see with our cell phones. lol The guys were mad because they wanted to watch the UT/Ohio game. Fortunately (or not) the power came back on during the fourth quarter. It was actually fun sitting in the dark on the patio in the rain.

Sunday was Ed's birthday. We decided at the last minute to have a BBQ. We had told a couple of people about it on Friday but when Sunday came it was raining so bad we thought no one would show up. Ed pulled the grill onto the patio and we decided we would just cook anyway. By 3 o' clock no one was still over so we grilled up some shrimp for ourselves since we were getting hungry. My parents came by around 4:30 and we ate grilled chicken with (homemade) tomatillo sauce. Around 6 the rain stopped completely and my parents decided to eat and run. Just as they were leaving Juan and Bobby showed up and Suzanne called saying they were on their way. Chris got lost on the way over and I watched them drive passed the house while I was on the phone with them. I was shouting at Suzanne, "Turn turn!!" as they drove by. Sillies. Once they actually made it to the house the festivities began. My 7-layer dip (that only had 6 layers incidentally) was a hit. We started doing shots of Jager, Bumblebees, German Chocolate Cake, Bull Blasters and a couple I made up along the way. It turned out to be a really great time. It was the first time we had friends over. Everyone loved the house, even though it was half empty (makes it look bigger lol). Ed, Jolie and I even got into the hot tub by the end of the night.
