Fics: "Getting a Fix," GH, Mucky, and "The Art of the Dodge," GH, Ethina

Got a little ficcish this week! Whoo-hoo!

Maxie's never loved anyone else like she loves Lucky Spencer. It's not this one thing she can explain… like he makes her a better person, or he helped her through losing someone, or he makes her laugh. No, it's a million things. Half of them are messy. If she's honest, half of them make her look terrible.

Loving Lucky is about being that little girl who used to follow him around the Ward house like a puppy. At one totally low point in their lives, it was about getting him pills to hook him and faking a pregnancy to keep him. Now, it's about bringing out his gentle, easy smile just weeks after he buried his four-year-old son. It's about getting rid of his annoying green card wife and pushing him back to Saint Elizabeth if that's what will make him happy.

Caring for Lucky is about fighting for him, fighting *with* him and seeing that sparkle in his eyes that means all is forgiven.

Maxie loves Lucky more than she loves herself… and that's why they'll never be together. Because as generous, kind and sweet as Lucky Spencer is, even he doesn't have enough love to fix what's broken.

Title: "The Art of the Dodge" 1/1
Author: monimala
Fandom: GH
Rating/Classification: PG-13 for language and mild sexual imagery, Ethan/Kristina, filler fic.
Disclaimer: I don't own the characters and am making no profit. The bits of dialogue are lifted verbatim from the 5/19 and 5/25 episodes of GH.
Summary: 450 words. Filler fic for the May 25, 2011 episode of GH. All Ethan has to do is look at Luke to see the blueprint for the rest of his life.

Ethan doesn't blink when Kristina walks in dressed to kill. She's got the red dress, fuck-me heels, and smoky eye makeup that make her seem too grown up (like she wants to be spread out on the bar, licked before he downs the world's biggest shot of tequila) and he doesn't look at her. He just stares into the abyss of his barely touched Crown Royal, seeing an image of himself at 65, shattering glass and illusions with a baseball bat.

It not that he doesn't *notice* she's dressed up for him. He's not blind, not stupid. But he can't let her know it. Not now. Maybe not ever. Not if this monstrosity runs in his veins. Not if he's going to turn on her like Luke turned on everyone who loves him.

*"She's looking for a hero, and it looks like you fit the bill."* That's what *her* father said, warning him away like he's some pervert with a white van. Ethan knows better than anyone that he's no hero… no matter how strong (helpless, terrified, out of his element) he felt when he picked her off the floor last year and carried her to the hospital… and all he has to do is look at Luke to see the blueprint for the rest of his life. Cracking wise, drinking whiskey, turning his back on everything that matters. That's in his genes, under his skin. Deeper than everything his mum and dad taught him before they died.

"I can feel myself slipping away," he confesses, "like I don't know who I am, and I am terrified of what I'm going to become." Krissy… beautiful, too old for her years (he keeps saying she's a "sweet kid," as if that'll make it true), tells him that he will be "awesome." Maybe she believes that, but he doesn't. He can't.

*"Kristina Corinthos is one dangerously smitten little bite of jailbait…. Dodge, I fear this undeniable death wish of yours comes from my end of the gene pool. Weigh your options with that in mind."*

You can't kid a kidder, can't con a conman. Luke's wrong about a lot (she's not 'dangerously' smitten, not jailbait), but he's right about who the Spencers are, about how alcohol is a symptom, not a cause… and about how Ethan's only got one option: never letting Kristina know she could be *his* addiction.

Knowing that, acknowledging it, doesn't stop him from gripping her hand like a lifeline, from choking back tears and not caring that she sees it.

She's got the red dress, fuck-me heels, and smoky eye makeup that make her seem too grown up… and maybe she's the hero here. Saving him from himself.
