I haven't actually seen Aliens in a while, though I did watch Alien last month when I was home with my folks! So, all research of details is from the Intarwebz and all mistakes are my own

oh, wow. OH, WOW! That is PERFECT. WOW. Thank you so, so much. I LOVE IT!!
I'd list my favourite parts but, omg, it would be too hard to choose because it is all brilliant! I love that Ellen knows she's replacing her daughter with Newt, that they become a family without realising, that she still has nightmares, and now so does Dwayne, but that they're there for each other. I love that it's not perfect, but it's real, it's survival, and it's them together.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I think the part of Alien 3's crap beginning that offended me the most was how it took away from Ellen what she'd fought SO hard to protect. She practically gave her life for Newt and also for Hicks. And to have that struggle mean nothing was a slap in the face. So, yeah, having them be a family is what I couldn't resist. This is what she deserved, what she struggled for!
Dad. So casual. And yet Ellen meets Hicks' eyes across the table and knows it's huge. He's stunned, but the only outward sign is the slight curl of his fingers into the tabletop.
I love that part the most. One word and it's loaded with so much meaning and is the catalyst for making them realize they are a family. This is amazing.
P.S. I'm so happy you wrote Aliens fic. It's one of all-time favorite movies.
P.S. #2 Yeah, Alien 3 and 4 do not exist for me either.
Thank you! Aliens is one of the first movies I remember watching and being terrified by and, of course, subsequent viewings made me realize how awesome Ripley was, and Hicks, and that there was SO much more going on than just the jumping out of my seat moments.
I love that the "Dad" part worked! I was a little worried it might be cheesy but hoped it would turn out like I meant it to: as the catalyst, and a wakeup call for them. :)
Thank you! I'm relieved that Riley's voice sounded right. I was afraid I might not be able to capture her badass quality and inherent strength, especially as the setting was so domestic.
I'm so glad Anr requested this at the Free-For-All. It was great to get to play in the universe.
