Belated Gossip Girl thoughts.

It occurs to me that the Fantastic Four looks awfully young and fresh-faced in my icon. I mean, geez, Chace Crawford looks completely different now since he's co-opted Peter Petrelli's emo bangs and turned them into Nate's Sex Bangs of Doooooom. But why am I surprised? The phenomenon of this show, this fandom, has completely changed since the beginning. Nobody was watching it, then it was a guilty pleasure, then GG's PR people started whoring them out liek woah (talk about cross-promoting... the actors are a better "reality" show than The Hills), and now it's the "in" thing to watch Gossip Girl.

Well, I was there from the beginning, darn it. Hell, I liked CHUCK from the beginning. I probably shouldn't admit that.

At any rate, the is stronger than ever leading up to the season finale and that's great.

The lines that launched a thousand LJ icons: "We are the nonjudging Breakfast Club," "I'm Chuck Bass," and "Let's get the bitch."

The dialogue on this show is so tight, and for me it only stands second to the characterization of the main characters. Sure, Georgina is a stone cold bitch with no feasible motive (yet), but I've loved watching everyone else develop over the season. I LOVE that Blair basically put out the Bat Signal and called Chuck and Nate to help her with Serena. I love that they came, no questions asked, and the shot of them framed in the elevator was gorgeous. As was the icy look they shared that said, in no uncertain terms, they would be happy to kill Georgina no matter what Serena wants.

I don't know how it happened, but Nate got SMART and I love it. I love that Blair admitted her vulnerability to Lily and asked for her help. I love that Lily stepped up. She's really turning into a wonderful mother and I appreciated her being there for Serena when Serena needed her.

Most of all, though, I LOVED RUFUS AND LILY. Oh my God. They have THE best romantic arc on the show. The angst, the we-can't-be-together, it's all the more poignant because they're not crazy teenagers. Their kiss in the street was so hot, so gorgeous.

And just for fun, one One Tree Hill comment: the last thing out of Luke's mouth in the episode...? Best. Thing. Ever. I cackled, I was so amused. Suck it, P. Sawyer!
