Yes on pencils sketches there is always a life to them vitality wise that is toned odown in a painting. Unless the artist can keep it lively during painting its kinda hard to keep it as lively.
Yes for 20 years I have done acrylics and I only did it due to the need in the industry to have art NOW delivered. I am sick of them they don't do what oils can they dry 4 shades lighter than they are on your palette. They dont' blend as well I DO NOT CARE what people say about open acrylics they are still similar. blending is what i am looking for. I am not going to be so lazy a painter as many. I really want to have a classical look to my work if I can make that happen. Oils are not so bad really and if you use paper towels mostly and such no fire hazard. But get an automotive or machine oil bucket to put your rags in and its safer. I have always wanted to use oils forever but they take MUCH discipline to use and a lot of study how they work. People today are lazy painters in general. It is all that crappy "feeling" art today that is abstract and so so and all that. Do a portrait omg too much work for most!!!!
I just love how oils blend and the richness of colors that don't look so plastic like. The earth pigments have that something in the binder for oils, the vegetable oil for one has sort of a hmm look to oils then the colors are nice. I know acrylics attempt to get close but the binder is synthetic so it makes things a bit different in looks.
But if I every DO have troubles with the smell, and today the thinners and oils are sooooo much nicer and less toxic and barely have a scent now, I will just go to my computer and call it great!
