Angelic architecture had always been a little unsettling to Sam (hulking structures of glass and metal, honeycombed windows giving the monstrosities a hive-like appearance), but standing in front of their local headquarters, Machen
That's a wonderful bit of description, really scary in a nightmare kind of way.
Still captivating, and so unsettling!

Aaand every bit as painful as I thought it'd be. This Dean is even colder than the Dean we know. I'm sorry for both of them
This world was just as hard on the boys as their usual one, and they didn't even get to stick together.
I *loved* Jimmy/Castiel--the changing name-tag was a lovely, creepy touch.
Thank you! It it really fun to play with this world.

This is what made me think that's what the AIs would build

That clip is awe inspiring in all meaning of the word! It's like foreshadowing in action, cue ominous music in the background. :)

Thanks very much! This is a fun universe to play in, and trying to re-imagine the relationship between Sam & Dean if certain elements in their past had gone differently is both very challenging, and really, really interesting.

It's oddly fun finding a whole new way to make the boys' lives miserable ; )
I feel bad for both of them too. They never have it easy.
And DEAN! So cold and much harsher than he is in Canon. But I hope it's more the result of brainwashing and being in that environment than anything else, which is what the emotion in the last line implies.
You hit it on the nose exactly. I had the odd thought that Dean Smith would fit into this universe rather well, so he's part of the inspiration.

Both buys had it rough, and the angels are manipulative bastards in every universe that Sam & Dean exist in ; )
And rather than jumping to conclusions and crucifying the guy, I'm going to trust you. And think he's going to come back around - much the way he does in canon.
He always does.

I feel sorry for both of them, and I hope that they will come around eventually.
The Jimmy/Castiel shift was splendid, and Zachariah was just as much a dick as he was in canon.

Their past here is in some ways even worse than in the show (which isn't very nice of me, granted). One of the things I love so much about the show is that Sam & Dean keep each other human, in every sense of the word. You put them at odds and you end up with two very different monsters.

They always do.

Thanks very much! I do like playing with how to show the shift between human and Angel in this environment.
Zachariah is really fun to write too. What a slimy bastard ; )

Then again, the angels are always manipulative when it comes to Sam & Dean. Who knows what they've been whispering in Dean's ear.
Glad you're enjoying the read!
