8x17 ep reaction (delayed edition)
I would have posted last night but...
[personal TMI]I had some medical issues (couldn't breathe and then hyperventilated- bad combo) and ended up spending the night in the ER. Much better now after seeing the doctor and getting the right medicine, and I'm happy to know we have such competent EMTs in our neighborhood- they were amazing.
So without rewatching, I'm just going to pull my impressions from last night from memory:
I looooved Castiel's brainwashing training sequence. Thousands of dead Dean's sooo creepy and well done SFX. Really, really cool.
They have the Spear of Destiny!!! Holy crap, dudes. Do you know what you can do with that?
Oh Dean- randomly picking up and opening everything in your archive. I can't wait until you find the MoL equivalent of peanut brittle/snake in a can ; )
Sam is suffering from trial induced consumption. This had better result in near death followed by super-powered rebirth, yes?
Meg's Star War's reference cracked me up, and overall I really enjoyed her in the episode. I had expected her to secretly be in cahoots with Crowley (brainwashed herself) and was both relieved that she wasn't and then simultaneously convinced she'd be killed minutes later. Now, it did look like she died, but OTOH there are some compelling arguments as to why she might not be:
- We've seen demons (like Abaddon) flash with the magic knife's power before and survive.
- The way Crowley and Meg were fighting really looked like it was timed for the boys to see.
- That would just be so damn lame. She's the longest surviving recurring character from season 1. If they seriously wrote her off then give me back my other season 1 favorites: Missouri! or Sarah Blake, or Kat!
Confusing parts:
Crowley knows Naomi from Mesopotamia?
Uh...how? If he was who we were told he was back in season 6 (as a human) then that makes zero sense, unless he and Naomi time-travelled together, which okay- I'd accept (but then I want to see 'Naomi and Crowley's Excellent Adventure' and all the other cool times they visited).
Or maybe Crowley was just using the old term for the region? EH, that one confuses me. Explain it to me if you can f-list.
Castiel glowed when he touched the angel tablet because....it was overriding his reprogramming? Is that what happened? And then Naomi goes "Oh yeah, that's totally what I wanted him to do," to Crowley to...save face? I did like him riding off on the bus.
Sam & Meg had a talk! and they actually referenced her possession of him. Well done. You know what else you could have talked about? THAT ONE TIME YOU WERE LUCIFER, SAM. I'm never gonna get that episode, am I? Even if they go to season 20 and are doing nothing but clip-shows, they're just never gonna have him utter that line.
And then they talked about unicorns a lot. Amelia a unicorn? Eh, I get it I think- She's the ideal yes? The idea of her & life with her is what he was in love with, much like Meg was really starting to like the idea of Castiel and her. I would have an easier time accepting all this if I'd seen any chemistry between Amelia and Sam, and in retrospect I really didn't. He had more chemistry with...Sarah, Madison, Dr. Cara, Meg, Lucifer, Brady, well everybody really. And you know what? I still want to know who was outside of the house in Kermit? I do not accept that was Don- that makes no sense to me.
Loved, loved the ending talk with the boys- especially because of Rudy-hobbit. lol Dean you are so adorable with your geek references.
And He'll carry Sam. Sniff....awww. And also- lift with the legs, Dean! With the legs!!
Next ep- hunter kids! Creepy tutor who is likely up to no good at all and training them for something else entirely.
