Water finally stopped entering the basement of the Waterloo Centre for the Arts today. I don't know about the props basement of the Waterloo Community Playhouse, though. The water was waist deep in there. A lot of props and furniture pieces were lost. Some were able to be saved, others were not as lucky.

The set building for Into the Woods was five days behind. I'm not one for power tools, usually I say "Hey, do you need someone to paint?". But today I went and actually helped build set pieces. With power tools too.

I went to a business in Downtown Cedar Falls to pick up some pottery that I had painted. They had recieved a bit of water in their basement, but it wasn't too bad. The coffee shop across the street had some water in their basement, but they had moved everything up when the evacuation was ordered. The owner said that there wasn't much in the basement, but there will be even less now.

The local ABC affiliate showed footage of the interior of various Cedar Rapids businesses damaged in the flood. One of them was Theatre Cedar Rapids, whose productions I have praised on this blog. They mostly focused on the damaged pipe organ, whose sister was at another Cedar Rapids theatre that recieved heavy flood damage, but what they showed of the rest of the theatre looked pretty bad. And they did a lot of sandbagging.

The BBC had footage of a house being literally pulled into the flood waters. They didn't say where it was, but I sat there going "wow".

In non-flood related news, Cyd Charisse died. It makes me really sad. If you aren't oo sure who she is, she was the flapper in the "Broadway Melody" sequence in Singing in the Rain. That was a top story on BBC World News.
