I'd call this Media Studies practice actually.

The good thing that happened today: HAHA LAST WRITTEN EXAM SUCKERS. [Until June anyways.]

The bad thing: Art tomorrow, and while I have a good idea of what I want to do, I want to make 100% sure that I'm prepared to use those five hours well and not sitting around. =/

And also, while I'm at it: Is this thing a hoax or is it true?
Because if it is true, I'm halfway between laughing and crying.

On one hand, I enjoyed the cultural aspects Avatar was rooted in so I'm not happy at all to see how they seem to have changed the ethnicities in the show. I'm Asian myself, so while I understand why the production people have decided to do this [Star appeal, etc.], I am slightly offended [I doubt that there are that many people who do not look like the characters and can't act, regardless of their ethnicity] and can see where the huge bouts of rage is coming from. I would personally enjoy the film a lot more if it were made with a mixed ethnicity cast. But if they take the Chinese wording off the show, I'll kill them. >O *patriot*

Now, I'm going to ramble in my mediastudent!mong style, so feel free to skip.
I can understand the star appeal that the casting directors plan to use. By using people like Jesse McCartney and that guy from Twilight whose name escapes me, they can create an market with the audience. However, the audience they are targeting, given the choices, seem to be American and in the age range of 9-13. While the original show was originally aimed at that audience, I think that the casting directors do not realise that the show has actually gained an audience far wider than what they originally had, so they should try and aim for a wider audiences now. Surely they can recognise that Avatar has been broadcast in different regions of the world, and has gained an audience there as well. They should also know that there are many of the younger audiences who are from Asian ethnicities who also personally identify with the characters of the show. So basically, what I'm trying to say is that I think the casting directors do not understand that their target audience are not going to be the only people watching the show, and because of that they're going to have a lot of wank coming at them. And while I'm not crazily mad, I am wondering how the heck they thought they were going to get away with a mainly white cast in a film so deeply rooted in Asian cultures. They...do know the amount of people who watch this because it's not Eurocentric or because they enjoy the cultural diversity, right...?
On the other hand, Jesse McCartney. Shyamalan has to be joking. I'll be dying in the theater if it ever happens. It would be as epic as the Twilight movie. It'd be sad that Avatar wouldn't have an epic LOTR-style movie, but I think the lulz would make up for it. Somewhat. D:

Erm. Yes. I'm ready for some angry hordes of people either wanting to kill me or wanting to kill me.
This is a lot of tl;dr than I thought. ><
