character sheet: general

Aug 16, 2011 11:28

Date this chart was completed: 8/16/2011

Character's Full Name: Alexander 8 Darkov Yakovich was the old middle name but then I was like WAIT I CAN USE NUMBERS.....
Reason or meaning of name: Male, Greek -- "Protector of Mankind"; 8 for 8th generation child
Nickname: Alex, Jackal
Reason for nickname: Alex, simply because it's shorter. Jackal, for the wild laughing he's prone to in a fight.

Birthdate: Thaw, Half-moon (late winter/early spring birth)
Astrological Sign: N/A

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

Age: 19
How old does s/he appear? A little younger, 16-17, on account of his lack of facial hair, narrow shoulders, and height.
Eye Color: Dark brown
      Glasses or contacts? N/A
Hair color: Blond
Distinguishable hair feature (bald, receding hairline, etc.): A poor haircut; there's a few lengths of hair longer than the rest that curl into a weird cowlick.
Type of hair (coarse, fine, thick, etc?): Thick, prone to curl at a length.
Typical hairstyle: A mess, hackjob cut.

Height: 5'7"
Weight: 140-150lb
Type of body/build: Slim, generally athletic, muscular strength mainly in the legs. His arms are the only thing countering that, since he doesn't use them for much, and they remain weaker and thin.

Nationality: Olvoski

Skin tone: Caucasian, nearing a pale tone that is never quite gotten.
Skin type: Combination, a bit oily around the nose.

Shape of face: Smooth-featured, slight squaring at the jaw.

Distinguishing Marks? No
Scars? Along his back, forearms, thighs, shoulders...lots of little ones, easy to miss, but the more dominant ones are on his back and one running down his calf.
Most predominant feature: The hands/arms-- missing/broken fingers, often bound to look thicker around the forearm than they really are. His left index and thumb are the only working digits.
Resembles (famous or not): Some douchebag somewhere

Accent? Slavic tinge (imagine a cadence similar to this particular Alex over here ), a tendency to enunciate slowly, playing with syllable stress on unfamiliar or rarely-used words. He trails off with a sound ("Ehhh...") when he's thinking of what next to say, but not quite formed it yet.

Is he healthy?  Bodily; he has a strong immune system and Darkov bones do not beak easily...It is very rare for him to get sick, but when he does get he gets sick HARD and makes everyone miserable along with himself.
       If not, why not:

Physical disabilities: Above mentioned hands.
Physical abilities (what is character good at? sports, etc.): A good sprinter, very agile and limber. He has a good sense of balance and has fast reaction times to keep himself upright, and can jump pretty high. If he knew what the hell breakdancing was, he'd probably be good at it, given his fighting style.

FAVORITES

Color: Green
Music: Bawdy battle tunes
Food: Citrus fruits
Literature: Hates it all
Expressions: ? Facial...??
Book: Hates them all
Quote: "You will die anyway. At least do us the courtesy of dying useful."
Expletive(s) (swears): He doesn't swear much at all aloud, but he likes to hear other people do it. Especially 'shit'.
Mode of transportation: His own two feet.

HABITS

Smokes: Nope
       What?
       How often?

Drinks: Nope
       What?
       How often?

Worst bad habit? He smirks or laughs at inappropriate times.

Quirks: The sound he makes when he's thinking aloud ("Ehh..."). When he's irritated, he smirks and tends to drop his head enough to look up at a person; a substitute for not rolling his eyes. When he idles, he rocks on his heels/balls of his feet. When really angry, he spits a lot. He has a tendency to laugh or chuckle a lot. In the rare event he's showing affection, he doesn't hug or cling, but he stands close and brings his head to the other's shoulder/side of their face, like...a hi-I'm-here-you-may-hug kind of thing.

BACKGROUND

Hometown: A Darkov compound closest to a town called Southroot, southern portion of Olvoski.
Type of childhood: Not...overly healthy. Lots of training, peppered with paternal abuse of assorted varieties.
First memory: Father ruining dinner and leaving.
Most important childhood event that still affects him/her: Bruce accidentally crippling his hands.
       Why? WELL IT'S HIS HANDS...

Lower education: He knows his letters and can do simple math (add/subtract, multiply/divide), but percentages and other such don't really exist for him.

Higher education: Human and animal anatomy?

Booksmart or streetsmart? Street. Books are bricks.

Religion and/or religious views and/or tendencies? Indifferent for the most part, but is inclined to believe the structure the Darkovs are raised to know (Other World gods).

FIRSTS

Job? Family business of killin' dem monsters

Kiss? Regina, his cousin, when he was 7 and she was 8.

Sexual experience? N/A

FAMILY

Mother (name): Mira
Relationship with her: Com...plicated. She smothers and dotes on him, compensating for having him help her threaten his father, treating affection as repayment, still feeling extremely guilty for what she did. He resents her to a degree, but also pities her, and lets her do as she wishes, and has developed his habit of smiling/smirking at all times because of her insistence to always be happy.
Father (name): Aric
Relationship with him: HAHAHA...Father expected perfection and received less than such, resulting in a great deal of abuse. Alex hates him more than anything, is frightened of him, and pictures him when he thinks of the worst things. He gets his temper tantrums from Father, despite wishing to have nothing at all in common with him. He attempted to strangle him once (as mentioned, with Mother helping), but lost the will to kill him (he's still his father) at the last second. He considers it a mistake, and dreads the mere mention of his name, and goes out of his way to avoid any kind of contact.
Siblings: 3 younger
Birth order: Amanda and Adrian (twins, 18), Adam (16)
Relationship with each: Alex is fiercely protective of them, but was not always so. When Father's abuses started redirecting to them, Alex showed more aggressive tendencies, using bullying to scare them away or keep them out of Father's warpath. The reason Alex and Mother tried to kill him stemmed from Amanda being thrown down some stairs.
Of the three, Alex is most openly affectionate to Amanda. He's not a touchy-feely guy, but he does allow her to cling to him, change his bandages, cut his food...with minimal mockery. He still carries guilt over her accident, and makes less trouble when she is present. He is more authoritarian with Adrian, often telling him to do this or behave like that, threatening him with looks or empty words to get him to pay more attention to what he's doing. He teases Adam the most, coming from a place of desperation; Adam is not physically strong in many aspects, and Alex fears that will draw Father's wrath. So he wrestles and hassles him a great deal, but never more than the boy can handle.
Children of Siblings: N/A
Extended family (aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.): A whole slew of them. There are many Darkovs. He is closest to his cousins in the same compound - Bruce (22), Robert (18), and Danielle (15); Ivan (16) and Gracia (13); Regina (20) and Martin (14); and Vincent (18).
Close to family?  He is closest to siblings for above reasons, but outside of them he spends most of his time with Regina, whom he is partnered with on hunts. He tends to taunt Ivan and Bruce the most, Ivan because his (and Gracia's) mother is a Lumas woman, and Bruce because he still feels massively guilty about crushing Alex's hands.

CHILDREN

Does character have child(ren)? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
       How many? AAAAHHHH
Are all children with the same partner? WHY
If no, why not? If no, what is the custody arrangement?  Ok this section will just be a big NOPE
How does character relate to his/her child(ren)?
Which child is character's favorite?
       Why?
Character's most favorite memory of his/her child(ren)?
Character's least favorite memory of his/her child(ren)?
Is relationship with children good?
Is relatioinship with children important to character?

OCCUPATION

Where does character work? With and among his Darkov relatives
How many years? All his life! Starting at the age of 12.
Relationship with co-workers? Family...
Like his/her job? He loves his job.
Why or why not? When he hunts, Fexis (his partner spirit) rewards him for killing by way of ~pleasant sensations~. The more he kills, the better it gets. So hunting is...pretty much sex to him.

Dream job: The job he has, just without all the consequences.

ATTITUDE

Greatest fear: Father, dying
Worst thing that could happen to him/her? Losing the use of his legs.
What single event would most throw character's life in complete turmoil? Death of a sibling (esp at Father's hands)

Character is most at ease when: He has something to do that pertains to the hunt -- on the road, making preparations...he's a little like a kid on his way to Disneyworld.
Most ill at ease when: There is nothing to do, no hunting to be done, no tasks given. Left to idle, basically.

Priorities: Do enough of what is expected to keep people off his back, get work that gets him more chances to kill things, keep the siblings safe.
Philosophy: More or less snatching his happiness where he can get (on the battlefield), because the rest is shit.

How he feels about himself: He simultaneously loathes and loves himself, despising his Father-like tendencies but overly proud of the lengths he's gone to prove himself useful. An asset. He thinks himself very formidable and finds sharing weakness unacceptable.
Past failure he would be embarrassed to have people know about: Embarrassed? More like livid and ashamed. But failing to kill his Father counts for this; he refuses to ever mention it. No one but himself, his mother, and his grandfather know.
If granted one wish, what would it be? Perpetual happiness.
Why? Because he is a miserable guy with a lot of anger most of the time.

Daredevil or cautious? Caution is for sissies.
Same when alone? Yes. Risk-taking is exciting.

Biggest regret? Not killing Father.

Biggest accomplishment: Learning to conjure his chain flail from his feet.
Minor accomplishments: Breaking a few kill count records in his age bracket, keeping up with adult campaigns at his age.

Character's darkest secret: Almost killed Father!
Does anyone else know? I JUST SAID THIS EARLIER.
If yes, did character tell them? No. Mom was there, Grandfather found out because he's Grandfather.
If no, how did they find out? Grandfather can read situations and people, so it didn't take him long to realize what had happened.

PERSONALITY

Greatest source of strength in character's personality (whether he sees it as such or not): He is relentless, and will not give up until he's done all he can do to satisfy the goal he has in mind. The stubbornness to accept defeat doesn't always work in his favor, but it is what kept him alive for so long, and gave him the ability to conjure from his feet after his hands were shattered.

Greatest source of weakness in character's personality (whether he sees it as such or not): The fear of emoting with honesty. He cannot express his true feelings well; when he does, his attitude fails to match the words coming out of his mouth. When he gets frustrated with this, he gets loud, and sometimes violent.

Character's soft spot: His siblings, especially Amanda. Regina. In Splendor, Edel.
Is this soft spot obvious to others? In aspects, but not blatantly.
If not, how does character hide it? His affection is peppered with insults, teases, or sometimes threats.
Biggest vulnerability: Tears. Especially when women cry. He doesn't know how to react or deal with it, sometimes makes the wrong choices as to how to make it stop.

Which of the 7 deadly sins does character fight (or give into, willingly or not)? Wrath and Pride, most like. He fights Wrath more often than Pride, gives in to Pride more often than Wrath...
Which of the 7 virtues does your character have (or fight against)? Kindness, to his weird degrees. But Diligence is his sole virtue, if any truly were to stick.

TRAITS

Optimist or pessimist? Pessimist
Introvert or extrovert? A mix of both; he likes being seen, but hatehatehates being criticized or having to share feelings, etc.
Drives and motivations? The feeling Fexis gives him is what drives him to work and train almost constantly. The desire to feel happy in general moves him to do things, too. He is motivated to protect his siblings for fear of his Father, and compelled to stay with Regina out of some half-aware guilt he has for making her situation worse and the fact that she was the one who promised to stay with him despite his disability.
Talents (hidden or not)? He conjures chain-link flails from the soles of his feet, which is unprecedented in Darkov records. He can also put names to faces rather well, and is able to react to violent situations quickly.

Extremely skilled at: Fighting, his way. He has refined his methods to suit; it is unique to the other forms in Darkov fashion.
Extremely unskilled at: Endurance running/fighting for long periods, things requiring hand-dexterity, obviously. He is also not very good at tact, despite his default air of pleasantness. He sucks at dealing with pain, as he has such a low tolerance for it.

Good characteristics: He is protective of his important people, for one, and despite his weirdness, does seek to keep them safe. He does what is asked of him (even if it is done in an excruciatingly whiny or obnoxious, roundabout way); he is not afraid of hard work. His important people get treated with greater care despite his quirks and moods; he has his ways of showing affection without...shoving someone...
Character flaws: When around people not in his 'important' category, he puts himself and his needs first, tending to look down on others' and thinks of them as inconsequential. He is often in an air of feigned pleasantness/politeness, making his rare moments of sincerity hard to swallow. He is often impatient with things that do not interest him, and can come off as rude in his attempts to finish whatever business is keeping him from what he really wants to do. His fierce refusal to expose his weaknesses only makes them that more apparent when he suffers, and he makes himself nearly impossible to console or reach out to in those moments, prone to fierce tantrums and displays to scare people off. He handles negative criticism poorly, and constructive criticism near as bad.
Mannerisms: He has an automatic politeness around strangers that recedes once he's gotten to know the person enough to know he can get away with teasing or mocking them outright. There is always impatience underneath when he deals with people he doesn't know/wish to know. Those he DOES like being around can sometimes get very long and considering looks and can enjoy his full attention now and then, but he gets antsy when he's bored with something.
Peculiarities: The (almost) perpetual smile. Mother insisted he smile and be happy and forget about what happened, would chastise him when she saw him scowling or frowning. So he smiles. It is his neutral face, and it gets to weird, twitchy extremes when he's trying to keep a lid on his agitation/fear. It is rare for someone outside his secure circle of people to see him frown/scowl for more than a split second.

SELF-PERCEPTION

One word character would use to describe self: Unique
One paragraph description of how character would describe self: I am an asset. I have done more than anyone else to prove I am worth keeping, and I have earned my value. I am no cripple. I am a redesigned tool, better than I was; I can kill more beasts than any of my cousins in one night. I am unique in my ability, but even if I was not, I would be the best.

What does character consider best physical characteristic? His feet, legs
What does character consider worst physical characteristic? His hands
       Are these realistic assessments? YEP
              If not, why not?
How CHARACTER thinks others perceive him/her? He assumes he is still seen as an unfortunate cripple by his family. In Splendor, he thinks everyone sees him as a monster and murderer, that he's a human being on the same level as them. He thinks they all want him to die.
What four things would CHARACTER most like to change about self?
1. He would want to be able to conjure from his hands.
2. Be able to conjure more often without side-effects.
3. Be taller.
4. Not have to sleep.
If change #1 was made, would character be as happy as s/he thinks? Not entirely
If not, why not? His happiness through violence is still subject to Fexis' whims. Whether or not that increases with his dexterity is unclear.

INTERRELATION WITH OTHERS

Is character divorced? Why? NOPE
       If yes, how many times?
Has character ever cheated on any signficant other? Nope
How does character relate to others? It depends on whether he perceives them as worth paying attention to. If it's an authority figure in his family, he listens and obeys as needed, but otherwise seeks no interaction. If it's a cousin or closer family member, he taunts and teases, intimidates where he feels is needed, and flaunts his strengths or obnoxious tendencies to get the reactions he wants. He is polite to strangers, but only to the degree he thinks is deserving; he'd rather not waste time on anyone he doesn't know, unless they show a quality worth exploring.
How is s/he perceived by...
Strangers? He can seem rude, despite his polite words. The lack of sincerity behind his words makes him seem aloof or insolent. His laughing quirk is oftentimes unsettling.
Friends? Nosy, bratty, childish...He seems like someone who fails to take things seriously, and comes off as a bit of a bully.
Wife/Husband/Lover? Hahahahaha
Children? HAHAHAHA
Co-workers? That's family/friends
Protagonist? Martin is scared of him and likes to keep his distance. He resents him more than a little, secretly, because Alex is partnered with Regina, his sister, and she'd gotten so messed up after teaming up with him.
Antagonist? The Nightcap sees him as another in to the Darkov's downfall and seeks to utilize him as such, preying on his weaknesses and working in tandem with other factors to push a divide among the family and its methods.
First impression character makes is: Loud and bossy. His first appearance he is hollering for Regina to hurry up and get ready to leave.
What happens to change this perception? .......lol

What do family/friends like most about character? He does what he is told
What do family/friends like least about character? He is moody and doesn't take his work as seriously as they think he should; siblings find his repressive smiles unnerving.

GOALS

Immediate goal(s): Happiness, that feeling when he kills. In Splendor, finding safe ground.
Long range goal(s): A prolonging of that feeling. In Splendor, figuring out what his new purpose is.
How does character plan to accomplish goal(s)? Doing what Fexis says, for the first. In Splendor, he's relying on other people to just simply tell him something he wants to hear.
How will other people around character be affected? Lolol...In Splendor, people have died for his happiness, and now they will deal with this guy. Idk. We'll see.

PROBLEMS/CRISES

How character react in a crisis (calm/panic/etc.)? Internal panic, outward calmness. He tends to start moving in some way (walking/pacing/wagging his head/rocking on his feet) to give his adrenaline something to do if he can't outright attack something.
How does character face problems? With a smarmy ruse of a smirk.
Kinds of problems character usually runs into: In Splendor, mainly behavioral. His upbringing doesn't mix well with the environment, and his definition of humans and monsters causes a lot of issues.
How does character react to NEW problems? By trying to make them insignificant via excuses/laughing it off/outright ignoring them if he can.
How does character react to change? He takes positive change without question, but is very stubborn to changes he isn't keen on making, more adamantly clinging to his outlook (even though he, around his family, will openly mock Darkov ways).

Spending habits (frugal, spendthrift, etc)? Impractical. Give him coin and he'll waste it on the first dumb thing that interests him.
What does s/he do too much of? Fighting.

UNCATEGORIZED

Person character secretly admires: Adam
Person character was most influenced by: Father
Most important person in character's life before story starts: Father
Why? Well, it's not a GOOD kind of importance, but his father shaped his mannerisms rather literally. Like with his fists. And Alex's hate for him fuels a lot of his actions/inaction.
