Birthday Stuff

Happy Birthday to me,
I'm a hundred and three.
I look like a Deep One,
And I live in the sea.

Actually I don't really like birthdays. Oh, I like the cake, and the food, and some of the presents, but I don't like the attention, and I'd rather spend the day itself at home so I can sulk alone.

This year, I invited everyone to a bbq at the park on the weekend before my birthday. I set a special challenge; to bring an item of food I haven't tried before. It was an excellent idea, and people brought lots of odd things:

- pomegranates
- coconut yoghurt
- pretzels (I have tried these before; he was just guessing)
- warm salad with quinoa, purple yams, pine nuts and other strange things
- fondu (cooked out of doors, wrestling against the elements)
- strawberry and coconut slice
- bee sting cake
- sarsaparilla
- meat bread (which I had already tried, but everyone else went so nuts over it was kind of funny)

Actually it was more of a picnic rather than a bbq. No one bbqued anything. We ate lots of food, and then we had a nerf battle while I assume everyone else in the park looked on with envy. There were also ducklings wandering around randomly. The weather was great, and a good time was had.

I actually still have one more b'day dinner planned with another friend, but that'll be just us at home.

My mother sent me weird stuff, while assuring me they weren't actually presents; a book of literary analysis of The Turn of the Screw despite the fact that she couldn't stand to read it, and she had no idea if I had or not (in fact I have tried a few years ago and gave up as it's incredibly boring,) and a black and white movie based off the story with absolutely no names I recognize. I've given up trying to understand.

Also I didn't win the Vogel Award. Five more years left.
